Well said, buddingphotographer. As stated, the issue with grain does not lie in the fact that elements in the scene are in complete shadow, or are perfectly black. Grain comes from higher ISO numbers. A good high-contrast, silhouette image does not have to be grainy if there is enough light to allow you to shoot at lower ISOs.
