June 28, 2018 at 12:29 pm #31690John MachenParticipantHi!! I went through the process of buying a laptop for the same purpose a few months back. You can visit that topic here. I’ve been happy with Dell, haven’t had too many problems with it.

I think that you would be well served to get one with (1) a good CPU, (2) large hard drive. The Amd A10 falls behind the Intel i5 for raw power, but the a10 comes back to the top for graphics work, having a better graphics chip integrated. Unless you really want a windows, there is a 13″ Macbook pro on sale too- I think apple does a really good job on their hardware. Avoid the 2011 15″ Macbook Pro though- they are notorious for faulty logic boards caused by a overheating GPU.

don’t no what brand laptop to get
does any body know what the best brand laptop for photo editing is
THANKS
SilasJuly 9, 2018 at 8:45 am #31914Josiah WaldnerParticipantWell, the *best* is probably apple- hold the fire please! I think that apple has superior hardware with a good os, but it is pretty pricy. My Apple laptop is a 15″ MacBook Pro speced out with 16 gb ram, ssd, etc. I would not like to use anything less, but if you are not processing video, thousands of pictures, and hundreds of layers, and do not need a large screen, a 13 inch might work. On the windows side, Dell is a very respectable brand with good customer service. I have a Asus Virobook that I do some post-processing on, but you are on you own if something breaks.

July 12, 2018 at 12:58 pm #32031Ryan MadarisParticipant@silas, I’m an Apple fan as well, but they’re very expensive, otherwise I would suggest a MacBook Pro. I have heard some nice things about this computer though. Best Buy HP Laptop
At the time that I’m writing this, it’s on sale for $409.99, and it has 1 terabyte of internal storage.
July 12, 2018 at 2:10 pm #32032Josiah WaldnerParticipant@rmadaris, That is a decent laptop with a fair amount of memory and great hard drive- you’ll certainly want that if you are shooting raw. I think the Cpu is a little weak though. I would recommend a I5 proccessor if you can afford it, but you probably won’t find one for under 400. I bought a older refurbished laptop with an i5, 8 gb ram, and a 250gb ssd for 300. It is fast enough, but the hard drive is really too small for storing many pictures. If you are handy with computers, you could upgrade the hard drive inexpensively yourself, but it can be tricky. Just curious, is there any reason you don’t get a desktop? you at least have better data storage options. I have a older workstation that I use for most of my editing, and it has a internal RAID controller that allows you to plug in 3 hard drives at once. One is a 500 gb ssd that I store all my system files on for speed, and then a 4 tb hard drive for pictures. There is also a external 8tb backup drive. When my 4tb fills up, i can just add another hard drive- I am thinking a 8 or 12 tb. But that will be a while!

yeah I thought about getting a desktop but I have no where to put it and I kind of want something that I can take with me
Other wise I would get a desktopJuly 20, 2018 at 1:19 pm #32216Silas WoodwardParticipantDo you guys think that a 14.1 inch screen laptop would be big enough for photo editing?
