Hey! I got a Nikon Z-30 for Christmas with a 16-50mm lens. I was recently in a pawnshop when I found a Nikon Z-50 without a lens in mint condition for a really good price. I decided to buy it because the Z-30 does not have a viewfinder and is more designed for film, not photography. The Z-50 does have a viewfinder and is more for photos.
I am thinking about selling the just the Z-30 (not the lens) and buying another longer lens, and I wanted to know what y’alls thoughts are on that.

-PeterThis is encouraging, @theoutdoorsman. You’re learning the pros/cons of your equipment to quickly make decisions on what “actually” is best for your needs. And even though the Z-30 was relatively new, you were willing to let go of it for something better. You’re off to a great start.
I wholeheartedly agree with having multiple lenses. I have 3 lenses that I use regularly, all f/2.8: ultrawide (16-35mm for most of my landscape work), standard (24-70mm for most portraiture), and telephoto (70-200mm for animals, using a 2x extender when needed). I’ve used this basic setup, with various different lenses, over the years and can never seem to find a better arrangement. I could try covering that same range with two (or even one) zoom lens, but I would be sacrificing f/2.8 aperture and general image quality. Yes, it’s a hassle to constantly be switching lenses (though having multiple bodies has helped with that) and it’s a LOT to tote around, but the quality and versatility has been totally worth it.
I hope that helps in your decision on what other lens(es) to get! What is the lens you currently have that you are thinking of keeping?

Nikon Z-50 (keep)I was looking at maybe getting a Tamron A047 70-300mm f4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Lens Nikon Z lens on eBay. Do you think that is a good lens for close up photography? I couldn’t find a 70-200mm lens anywhere near my price range for some reason.
Also, should I keep the Z-30 on hand or should I sell it? It seems to be more for videography than photography and has less special effects and settings.
Thanks for the tip, @blessingscaptured! When I am looking for a good place to buy a 24-70, I will definitely keep that company in mind.
I ended up buying the 70-300 lens and a 2.2x extender and I think I will sell the Z30 on Facebook Marketplace or eBay. Thanks for y’alls advice!🙂
