ParticipantI took a few minutes on my way to do some errands to shoot these two geese on a river not far from our place.
Any thoughts, critiques, or opinions are welcome.
It was a slighty rainy day.

KeymasterHow fun! The biggest detraction for me is the large band of white ripples behind the geese. It being so large, stretching across the whole image and visually merging with the geese makes it a huge distraction. There’s not much you could do about that, of course, and it sounds like you didn’t have a ton of time to wait around till they were in a different area. 🙂
I do like how the heads of both geese are below the horizon line of the pond’s edge. That aspect is nice and clean!

ParticipantGood job on taking the opportunity you had. I agree that the geese don’t stand out very well, although I could not decide if it was because of the reflection or the lack of color contrast with the bank and water being dark shades similar to the geese.
Not having much time makes things harder, but moving a short distance left or right could have possibly removed the glare, although I don’t know what sort of distances and angles were in the equation.
I’m not sure how this would affect the overall appearance of the water in your situation, but another option could be a polarizing filter. That would likely have cut the white reflection, at least partially, if not completely. A polarizing filter can be a fun way to take pictures of things with windows since you can either let the window reflect, or look straight through it, just by adjusting the filter. With water, you can cut the reflection of the sky and look deeper into the water or let the color of the sky reflect.June 15, 2022 at 4:14 pm #71005James Staddon
KeymasterPolarizing filter is a great idea @westona!
