KeymasterASSIGNMENT DETAILS:
• Publisher: Shepherds Global Classroom
• Purpose: Shepherds Global Classroom is a not-for-profit organization creating biblical training curriculum for emerging Christian leaders around the world. They have a burden for believers worldwide who don’t have access to biblical training resources in their own language, so they’re creating and translating resources that can be used freely wherever people have need of them (at least 27 translation projects are currently in progress). Some of their courses contain illustrations to help the reader visualize the concepts being discussed. Recently they realized they don’t have a good image to represent Communion, so they’re turning to Lenspiration for help!
• Request: A professional, stock quality close-up photo of the “bread and cup” that would be used for celebrating the Lord’s Supper (communion).
• Special Instructions: SGC’s needs are very simple. No people or extra props are needed in the photo; just a nice close-up of a cup of wine/grape juice and unleavened bread. Since this image will be used around the world in many different cultures, they’re not looking for the little wafer chips and tiny individual wine cups that many modern churches in America use. Rather, it should look more traditional, with pieces of unleavened bread and a mug or cup full of wine/grape juice. If the bread looks homemade, all the better! Most people around the world don’t buy special factory-made communion bread. (If you’re up to the challenge, you can find recipes online for the traditional Jewish “Matzah” unleavened bread and make your own!).Ideally, the background should be white (or at least light colored), and very clean, (no wrinkles, distractions or unnecessary props). This photo will be printed fairly small (2-3″) and most likely in B&W, so keep that in mind as you compose your shot.
Note that the example shots are only given for general ideas, and some contradict the specific requests made here. (That’s why they’re looking for help from Lenspiration!) Please follow the guidelines rather than the example images where they disagree. 🙂 Use your imagination, and make it look as beautiful and sacred as possible.
• Orientation: Either vertical or horizontal is fine
• Photo Specs: At least 2000px on the long edge
• How to Submit: Members can follow the A, B, C process outlined here. (Instructions for non-members can be viewed here.) You can submit up to 10 photos.
• Remuneration: Photos will be delivered to the ministry at no cost to them. However, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, a Lenspiration member will be paid $27 if their photo is chosen!
• Terms: Since SGC makes their courses freely available online, (as well as in print, mobile apps, slideshows and videos) they want this photo to be as free as possible from any legal/copyright restraints. This is not just for their benefit–they want to be sure that people in other countries will be free to make copies/adaptations of their courses without having to wade through legal red tape because of the illustrations in them.Because of this, by submitting your photo(s) for this specific assignment, you agree to the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license. SGC will cite the image properly, and will gladly credit the photographer by name and include a link to the original photo. SGC reserves the right to use any of the photos that are submitted for this assignment.
• Deadline: Midnight Saturday, October 29, 2022 (or until this topic is no longer highlighted yellow).

KeymasterYay! I like the more authentic-looking bread that you used. Also, the simple background is going to be attractive to the publisher. Good job @laura-aome!

KeymasterWow whatever all of you are using for the bread sure looks authentic!
I used store-bought matzah for mine :]
I’ve found a pastry board works great for assignments like this. Makes a nice surface to use! I set up near a window in the living room for some nice light. The photo with the white background, I just used the overexposed window to create the background.

KeymasterThe complementary blue color @warrior-princess is very nice! Can you move that exact same setup outside in the late afternoon, where you would have more light? Background the same, just natural light with no flash or indoor lighting.
