Any questions on how to approach this assignment? Anyone hit any roadblocks in trying to shoot it that you need help working around?
Now’s the time to ask away! Can’t wait to see the photos you all submit!
December 30, 2024 at 1:06 pm #91863Mercy LongParticipantI had a fun time photographing this assignment, and I definitely learned some things as I shot it! Lighting was an issue for me since I don’t have a speedlite, but I did my best with trying to take the pictures at times when there would be some natural light coming in the windows. Here a couple of the ones I submitted.

January 2, 2025 at 10:34 am #91914Blessings CapturedParticipantMy sister needed some cooking photos for a project she’s working on, so this assignment fit right in.
One problem we were having was the glare on the bowl. We liked the look of a glass bowl, just not the glare. It helped if we could get the spoon in the right spot. Do you have any other tips for avoiding glare?
I don’t know if it’s the darker colors or how I did the bounce flash, but the shots don’t look very bright and airy. What modifications could I have done?
Truth be told, we took 307 images! But it wasn’t very hard to narrow them down. I was mainly looking for sharpness and the shape of the ingredients.

I was getting ready to download my photos for this assignment, and was wondering if there is a limit to how many photos I can submit? Thanks for the help. -Joanna
January 3, 2025 at 12:46 pm #91981Lydia BennettKeymasterYou can submit up to 10 photos, @joannapotter. Looking forward to seeing them!
January 3, 2025 at 1:19 pm #91982Joanna PotterParticipantI had a lot of fun shooting this assignment. My younger brother and sister (who were my models) wanted to make brownies, so this was the perfect opportunity. One thing that was very challenging for me was capturing the ingredients as they came out of the measuring cups. It was difficult to capture this while getting my focus, composition, and lighting the way I wanted. Therefore, some of the photos are a little off focus, even though the elements are captured. It was also challenging to get genuine facial expressions.
To tell the truth, I never knew it would take so long to make brownies, it took us over 2 hours!! 🙂 I probably took over 100 photos during the process! We had fun together, but this was probably one of the hardest assignments yet for me.
Looking forward to the webinar, and seeing everyone’s hard work!

P.S. the brownies came out really well, and tasted especially good after the long photoshoot!January 3, 2025 at 1:25 pm #91988Joanna PotterParticipantJanuary 3, 2025 at 3:21 pm #91996Joanna PotterParticipantHi Ms. Bennett, I was wondering if all of my photos came through on your end. The last 4 are not able to be viewed on the share area for this months photo assignment. Let me know if I need to adjust anything or even re-load them. -Joanna
January 3, 2025 at 5:19 pm #91998Lydia BennettKeymasterHooray @joannapotter, great job on your photos! So glad to hear how you persevered through the challenges of this assignment!
I’m seeing 10 photos here on the forum, so that’s looking good! I don’t see high-res submissions on the dropbox link though, so if you could go ahead and upload your full-size photos here (either DNGs, edited high-res photos or originals) – that would be fantastic!

It is so much fun to get a little behind-the-scenes look into what you all put into your photoshoots. The amount of time, the amount of photos . . . I never would have guessed! That’s what it takes sometimes, though. And you all did super! Looking forward to looking at everyone’s photos and critiquing them tomorrow night (Tuesday 1/7/25 at 7pm).
