KeymasterWhat a great assignment this is! I culled down my photos, and would say these four are the best that I got of the three of them close together. I’m not sure if there’s enough space around the subjects in the photos for it to really work for the catalog cover, though. I know it’s a bit of a tight crop.

KeymasterLooking forward to seeing everyone’s submissions come in over the next few days! If you still haven’t photographed this assignment, it’s getting close but there’s still time! Any questions? Feel free to post here.

ParticipantHere are the photos by Joanna Potter. I had planned to take the photo shoot outside, but at the last minute, we had to change plans. Thus, we ended up with indoor photos. It did lead to some shadows, but it was an exercise in learning flexibility in the moment and I was thankful for the opportunity to gain new experience. I was thankful for friends who allowed me to practice on them! I have learned that it can be challenging to photograph children!! It was especially hard to get the little boy to smile that night 🙂

Participant@samuelwest Those are wonderful, Samuel! Are you on the far left in the whole family photos? As the photographer, that would be the best place to slip in before the timer runs out! (If you used the timer instead of a shutter release remote).

ParticipantGreat job Samuel and Joanna! Your pictures look nice!
Here are our pictures for this assignment. Joshua was the photographer. 🙂 We didn’t get much variety of poses of backgrounds (our grandmother was not up to us moving around and swapping people, so we gathered around and let her sit in her favorite glider.) We did a bit of spot removal editing and used Photoshop on a few of the pictures for a ‘green screened’ effect.June 24, 2023 at 10:44 am #80123David Parris

Participant@parrisfamily your Shetland Sheepdog is so patient during the taking of your beautiful family photos! Also, how in the world did you so naturally take away the chain fence in Photoshop?? I could never have guessed it was behind the swing when you removed it. 🙂

ParticipantWe used what Lightroom (and I think Photoshop) calls spot removal and healed/cloned that area of the picture. Unfortunately, we have had a bit of practice using the spot removal tool because of a lack of foresight on our part. 😏 For the 2 pictures that we used Photoshop to replace the background in, we used the erase tool to erase the background and fill it in with a solid color. Then we used the selector tool, created a layer via cut and deleted the background. After that we dropped what was left of that picture onto another picture of a similar background and stretched it to fit. Hopefully, that explanation makes sense?
Our Shetland Sheepdog aka Sheltie was patient, I think she was hoping for a treat!?. 😄June 25, 2023 at 8:43 pm #80142Warrior Princess
Participant@parrisfamily wow, I actually understand all of that! What wonderful editing skills you all have! And is “we” David Parris as the photographers and the girls as your sisters in the photograph? Or are a just a few of your family photographers?
