March 3, 2023 at 12:15 pm #75780James StaddonKeymasterI had such a fun time documenting March in my portion of the globe, and I’m looking forward to seeing your photo essays sharing what March is like in your corner of the world!
March 13, 2023 at 11:38 am #76194Lydia BennettKeymasterHooray! I finally had an idea for how to shoot this assignment, checked the weather forecast and put it on my calendar! I’m looking forward to seeing the different ways folks document “The Month of March”!
March 19, 2023 at 8:36 am #76618Amy SagerParticipantHello,
This is Evelyn Sager. I was wondering about how we submit our photo essay. Do we submit the photos along with the “essay” in here?, and then just submit our photos in the “High resolution photo dropbox”?
Thanks!
March 20, 2023 at 10:09 am #76625Lydia BennettKeymasterYes, you’re correct, @sager7!
Submit your high-resolution photos with the link on the details page, and then submit your written essay with your low-res photos attached right here on the forum!
March 20, 2023 at 11:35 am #76633Lydia BennettKeymasterI ended up writing my essay in poetic form! It just came to me that way as I took the photos and thought about how I could express “March” in this area where I live!
I’m not usually much of a poet, so I think the Lord gave this one to me 🙂
“BEAUTY IN THE BROWN”
It’s winter’s end, and spring has yet to show its rapturous glow,
The days are short, the wind is strong, the land bereft of snow.
The month of March – how drab a time, how bleak with nature’s frown,
But wait, my friends, you soon shall see, there’s beauty in the brown.A thorn…what’s this? A thorn, dear me. It’s ugly, sharp and cruel,
No fragrant roses or sweet fruit to counter thorn’s harsh rule.
But even here we see a thorn, when touched with golden glow
Can be a thing of beauty, needn’t be a dreaded foe.A twig, a leaf, a single branch when warmed by sunshine’s rays
Each one sings out the glorious truths of our Creator’s praise.
How kind He is, how full of grace to beautify the land,
But sweeter still: your very life is kept by His good hand.He bids you rest, He offers joy, your weakness He’ll make strong,
And as you lift your gaze in love, He’ll fill your heart with song.
So, my dear friends, when life is bleak and troubles weigh you down,
Look unto Christ, and He’ll become your beauty in the brown.March 21, 2023 at 12:20 am #76743Warrior PrincessParticipant@lenspirationlydia Oh, Lydia, that is such a beautiful poem! I also am setting one of my essays to poetry! The pics will be coming in a day or so.
March 21, 2023 at 12:22 am #76744Warrior PrincessParticipantBy the way, how many photos are we allowed to submit, and how many essays?
March 21, 2023 at 2:57 pm #76745James StaddonKeymasterThat’s a good question, @warrior-princess! In the details it says:
“You may submit multiple photos with your written story. You may submit more than one story.”
Since it doesn’t specify, I’d suggest keeping the amount of photos submitted with each story down to 10. It’s not a hard limit, and Nature Friend will be happy to have lots of pictures, but they do only want our best!
March 21, 2023 at 3:00 pm #76746James StaddonKeymasterINCREDIBLE @lenspirationlydia!
March 21, 2023 at 3:48 pm #76749Amy SagerParticipantMarch in Indiana!
By Evelyn SagerGreen leaves are just starting to grow on the trees. The grass is changing from a dull bleak pale greenish-gray, to a bright sparkling green. Birds are chirping, and grasshoppers are hopping. The worms are poking their heads through the ground to be met with a sharp gust of chilly air. As the sun shines bright, Spring is almost here!
March in Indiana is a funny month, and the weather is widely varied for each year, but normally, March is a month full of windy, blustery days. Sometimes though, the weather goes crazy, and you might be out, just getting ready to plant a garden, and then all of a sudden you find it snowing outside.
Since Indiana is in the middle of lots of different weather, it is quite hard to predict what the weather will be like. It is just as likely to snow for the whole month as it is to be 80 – 90 degrees out. This March has wavered between upper 60 degrees outside, and below freezing. As you can see in the pictures, some are of grass with snow on it, and then just a nice brisk day of hiking at Turkey Run.
Green leaves are just starting to grow on the trees. The grass is changing from a dull bleak pale greenish-gray, to a bright sparkling green. Birds are chirping, and grasshoppers are hopping. The worms are poking their heads through the ground to be met with a sharp gust of chilly air. As the sun shines bright, Spring is almost here!
My family went to Turkey Run the other day, and I was able to get some pretty good photos there. (Turkey Run is a state park in Marshall Indiana.)
The big tree was growing on a steep incline, and I was fascinated by its huge gnarly roots. They stretched down behind it, and into a huge canyon. It had moss growing on it, as you can see, and was quite tall. The perspective was fun, because behind it, is a steep incline.
Out on the trail, my dad happened to turn over a rock that had pretty patterns on the back of it, and we were surprised to see a little salamander underneath. After seeing that first salamander, we spent some time looking, to see if we could find more salamanders. Sadly, we didn’t, but I am still happy that we were able to find this one. The beautiful yellows and little tints of dark green-ish grays are very eye-catching!
We hiked along a big river most of the time, and the sun was shining right on it, so I was able to get a picture that made the water look almost glassy. It was a shallow river, and so out in the middle of it there was a rock and you could see the water rippling over it, creating little ripple currents above water.
A little bit ago, we had a light snow covering, and I was able to get some nice pictures before it all melted. The grass was slightly icy, and the lighting was almost perfect.
I hope you have enjoyed March in Indiana!
(It was funny writing this because I knew that my pictures were so different in that some showed a snowy freezing morning, and the others just a nice day in March, although they were taken only days apart!)(This is not part of the essay!)

March 22, 2023 at 8:43 pm #76832Warrior PrincessParticipantHere is one of my photojournalism pieces!
Promises of the Sky
In the moonbeams
I see Your never-ending love
In the stars
The promises You’ve made from the Beginning.Never could I look at them again
Without thinking
Of Your great covenant with us;
Never again see them
Just as lights above in the sky
To make the darkness glorious.Your holy face I see
In the sun’s bright rays
In the clouds the protecting tenderness
Of Your protecting wings.Together they make a window
To Your Heavenly throne-
A stairway to happiness divine.
I look, and drink in
Your marvelous ways
And fix in my memory
Your beautiful design.March 22, 2023 at 9:46 pm #76839Warrior PrincessParticipant -
