In case anyone is interested, HSLDA is hosting a photo contest! I wish I was a homeschool student aged 7-19 🙂
I was excited to find out that I’ll just be able to enter this competition age wise. 🙂 Since this is the last year I’ll be able to enter, I’m thinking about giving it a go!
So apparently I have to take a picture of something ornate… The first thing that came to mind was the inside of an ornate building. But, I need some help to brain storm some different ideas – what is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word ‘ornate’? 🙂

I’m planning on entering as well and this will be the last year I could enter 🙂
I’m also having trouble with the theme of “ornate”. One idea I had was a photo of an eye (you can’t get much more ornate in design than an eye in my opinion) or maybe some type of glass work but don’t know how I would go about either of those…Hah I remember a similar discussion last time HSLDA’s photo contest rolled around!
So again, if I were entering this contest, I’d….
1. Define the word “ornate”
A photo is supposed to tell a story, so in order to tell a story of a word, you need to know what it means, right? 🙂 I’d grab out a dictionary and look up the definition, and try and get a better sense of what story I was trying to tell!2. Sit down and take the time to make a list of anything & everything I might consider to be ornate based on that definition.
3. Shoot any or all of the things on my list (depends how long the list is!), and then choose which of my options to enter into the contest.
