This is a view of the mountains on the ridge behind our house. I saw the multiple layers to this shot, and decided to make a photo. Any thoughts?

Cool. Nice colors and textures. Good eye. You might try to emphasize one thing as your main subject, and see what you get.

@tonydavid, thank you! I’ve taken countless photos up there, so I probably have a few. Thanks!

I have been looking at this picture over and over trying to figure out why it doesn’t “pop” to me. I think it’s 2 things….

First off, if it was me, I really wish there was tons of color from an amazing sunrise/set in this shot! 🙂

Secondly, while I love the concept of layers and I see what you were trying to accomplish, to me it looks like each “layer” is blocking the view of the next “layer”. I would like there to be a way to have the layered look but not feel blocked by it. Plus, I don’t know that I would’ve noticed the layers if you hadn’t mentioned that was what you were trying to capture.

But wow, what a view to have from your back yard! All I can see from my back yard is trees! 😀

@bennett-family, thank you! The photo was even blander than this before I edited it. I think that’s a great idea about the sunrise/sunset in the picture!

Beautiful view! I feel like there’s too much blank space in the top of the image. I think if you somehow filled more of the frame with the mountains, the image would be a lot stronger. As I look at your image I get the urge to tilt the camera 🙂 so that I can get a look down into the valley – I feel like I’m missing something really picturesque. Maybe try to include more of down there. Also, there’s a noticeably bigger element on the left (the tree) than on the right, which almost makes me feel as though the image is falling over to the right. 🙂 If you could balance it out more it would be better. Good work!

Oh yes! I can totally see this being a stunning sunset picture. 😀
