My sister and I were on our way home from our grandparent’s place one evening and were privileged to be able to capture this sunset. I chose to take the backroads home and was glad I did! Earlier in the evening we stopped on a gravel road to capture the sun sinking below the hills, then continued on our way figuring that was the end for the evening, but when we got to the Radisson Flowage (The Radisson Flowage is located in Radisson, WI on the Chippewa River.) I couldn’t resist stopping for more photos, even though the shore was rather brushy. This is what I came up with between young trees and trying not to fall into the water.

What an amazing sunset! I like how you captured the silhouettes of the distant trees and their reflection in the water. I think it would have been better if you could have eliminated the close tree branches against the sky. The “weeds” etc. in the foreground help to create a sense of depth although they seem a little random and distracting especially on the left side of the first photo. I’m sure it was one of those moments when you were scrambling to find something that would work before the color was gone from the sky! I had one of those moments recently while driving through Wyoming. The sunset was amazing and I found myself stopped along the interstate scrambling (and literally stumbling!) around for something that would make a good foreground subject before the drama in the sky was over! About all I could find was a little clump of sagebrush!

It’d be better if the foreground tree branch was in sharp focus as well. I like the vertical shot. Maybe zoom in a little more to draw attention to a particular set of shapes created by the trees and eliminate some of the surrounding distractions. The texture of the sky is very soft and attractive; glad you included it in the vertical shot. Maybe find a series of elements in the foreground that “piece together” with the reflected trees (like @dan-cope did with this shot). Certainly an amazing sunset!
