I enjoyed shooting this thunderstorm while visiting cousins in Belize this spring.
Shutter speed: 30sec
ISO 400
F/3.5
18mmI love to sit and watch thunder storms. The power of God’s creation is so evident. I like the way you caught the lightning in the clouds. Timing is so important.
But the storm is a little lost. If you want the storm to be the subject of your photo, then I think you have way too much foreground. The trees take the focus off of the storm.
I see what you mean. We didn’t think to move into the chicken yard until after supper, and then we couldn’t see the storm anymore. Any suggestions for working with what I’ve got? Is this any better?

Yes, the second crop is better!
The subject matter is awesome. Literally. Like @covenantservices2011gmail-com said, the photo kindles a feeling of awe at the irrepressible forces of nature only inside the control of the Creator.
The long shutter speed creates a neat effect with the blowing wind. This only works when there’s something in the trees that is sharp though, so you have that here which is good. If it was possible (ie. a wider aperture) it might be nice to have just a little faster of a shutter speed to keep the stars from looking like little lines. The only other way around this would be raising the ISO, which you could do, seeing you’re at 400. You would have to remove some grain afterward in post though.
