I’ve enclosed a picture of a Christmas tree and some Christmas decoration in my residence. The picture was taken at 8:54 P.M. on the 28th of November in Night Scenery Mode with a six second exposure time. Any thoughts?

I really like the starburst effect on the string of lights! To me, the overall picture looks too much like just a snapshot of a room. I think it would be better if you would focus in on something in particular and exclude some of the furniture etc.
So much fun! You’ve inspired me to take pictures of the lights in my house!
Very interesting contrast of colors captured here. I would say the exposure is just right, all the unimportant elements are in shadow and the lights are not blown out as to obscure their individuality. I like the starbursts too. The narrower your aperture, the more this effect will be visible.
I love the shapes and textures on the walls. I bet you could really have some fun zeroing in on some of that. I’ve attached a few crops that I saw initially. They don’t necessarily document how you decorated for Christmas, but they do portray a more potent feeling of Christmas perhaps.

Thank you for your comments. My brother, who did the majority of the decorating, also said that I should have zoomed into the Christmas tree rather than take a wide angle shot of the room with the furniture. I guess I just wanted to capture the atmosphere of the room as well as all the starburst effects from the all of the lights. Also, I’m not really sure if I could have captured the starburst effects on the walls had I zeroed into the Christmas tree. Maybe this shot of the Christmas tree taken in similar conditions has a better subject than the previous picture.

I see, @Joshua_Ong. Then that shows the difference between documentation and art. Sometimes the two can be mixed, but if the intent is to make memories, than sometimes it doesn’t matter how artistic it looks. Documenting artistically is a real art, though, and is the mark of a good photojournalist.
As for the starburst effect, as long as you keep your aperture narrow, you should be able to keep the starburst effect regardless of how far in or out you are zoomed.
In terms of documenting artistically, I do like your second shot here. And perhaps shooting vertically would have made it even better.
