I’ve inspected the lenses one has a little dust inside of it, but I don’t think it is to much to be a problem.

The lenses are for a 35mm camera if I put them on a crop sensor camera what, if any, will the crop factor be? Would it be the same as with a full-frame to a crop sensor?

And a comment about your statement, “we have two of his [Great Grandpa’s] DSLRs”….the Minolta SR-7 would just be an SLR, a Single-Lens Reflex camera. That’s what SLR stands for. A DSLR is a Digital Single-Lens Reflex camera, which wouldn’t exist in your Great Grandpa’s day. 🙂

It would certainly be worth adding a new lens or two to your bag, especially if you’re shooting a wedding! And they don’t have to be expensive or name-brand, as long as you can get wide apertures like @josiahw was saying.

If you’re on a cropped sensor, then 50mm may be telephoto enough if you’re not afraid to walk up and get close when needed.

@josiahw, it actually is edited slightly. I enhanced the contrast a bit and raised the clarity. I do see what you mean by the road being in the middle. I probably should have put the road to the right of the frame. I ended up getting the Canon EF 24-105mm 3.5-5.6 lens off of eBay. I’m really happy with it. As far as I can tell so far it is almost as good as my 50mm prime.

@josiahw, Interesting! I would suggest using a lower ISO. There’s a lot of noise in the image. Also, use a faster shutter speed. 1/160 is a bit slow for handholding the camera when shooting wildlife unless you have image stabilization. That may solve the problem with that photo. I don’t have very much experience with Canon, though, as I’ve always…Read more

I use my camera mainly when we do specials at church, so when the notes of either instraments or voices get higher, the noise on the camera also expresses that, and therefore it doesn’t sound crispy clear.

Hi @hannahm,
I’ve found that the quality of the microphones on Nikon cameras aren’t that good all around. I’d recommend using an external microphone for better sound quality.
@josiahw has a good point about the playback volume, but also, check your microphone settings. You may have the volume set to high if you are in manual.
Hope this helps! 🙂

Having just gone “lens shopping,” I’ve heard a lot of good things about the 85mm 1.8 from a buddy of mine. Also just having received my first prime (the Canon EF 50mm 1.8), I can agree with @josiahw in that it is nearly impossible to get desired…Read more
