Active 1 month, 2 weeks agoI'm a home schooling mother of 8 who loves to record our life in pictures. Just one two-month mission trip to NZ and PNG brought 9,000 pictures! I don't know a lot about taking good pics. I mostly point and shoot with my Panasonic Lumix, the camera my husband bought for me in 2007. I liked it so much that after than camera wore out a few weeks after he died in 2010, I asked for help finding a new camera and received the recommendation from my husband's friends to get a Canon Powershot SX 30. I found it twice a heavy, it didn't have the sunset setting that I love and use a lot, and it started taking three of every picture. When you take lots of pictures, tripling them unnecessarily is terrible! I looked for and found the very same Lumix camera I had before, new in box, on eBay and use that. But my daughter was allowed to use our new friends' DSLR and liked that. We may have to shell out the money for a new camera because of problems with the SD card. We don't have time to attend workshops, so I hope this blog will help us improve our photography and maybe pick a new camera! I also have a son who takes pictures as a side business, especially weddings. So picture-taking is here to stay in our family. We attend Old Paths Bible Baptist Church in Holley, NY.

That was really fun to read down through and see the progression of your photos! I thought that the final ones you posted have a really fun “family enjoying work together” feel because of the happy expression on the side of the boy’s face, and the body language telling me that they are chatting or telling stories and just enjoying their time…[Read more]

Thank you everyone for your generosity!! I was so blessed and humbled by the outpouring of Christ’s love through you all in this difficult time in my life. Thank you to James, Lydia, and whoever else helped put this together. Your encouraging verses and notes were so kind. I pray the Lord blesses each of you as only He can!

Actually, I think Sonja-Grace’s edit is nicer, James. Her blue seems to bring out the fact that distant mountains usually look blue. Perhaps the original photographer knows what the scene looked like when he/she took the picture and unconsciously brings out that color scheme when editing. It is part of what drew him/her to take the picture in the…[Read more]

I was planning to pull some pictures from my portfolio that seemed peaceful, but Mom challenged me to get out there at blue hour like James had, and try to shoot some peaceful shots of our pond. Unfortunately, our the New York scenery is very brown and drab…we don’t seem to be getting any snow this winter.😏 (So that’s amazing that James had more…[Read more]

Yes, I thought it was funny that they are all free but with different storage limits. I don’t know if Pass Gallery lets you have a personalized website, but I liked that Pixieset does. I think maybe I read an article by someone who gave some reasons why they chose Pixieset over Pass Gallery, but now I don’t know what the reasons were!😂

Ditto everything Lydia said! I set up a free account with Pass Gallery before I was told about Pixieset, so if I run out of gallery space in my Pixieset gallery, I always have the option to upload to my Pass Gallery website. But I have not done that, as I like to keep everything in one place! 🙂

I’m so glad that I came across this forum, because I was just wondering about exporting my photos at a smaller size. I use Pixieset to deliver to my clients, but since I want to continue to use the free plan instead of upgrading to a paid plan with more storage, I thought maybe I should start exporting my clients’ photos smaller so that I don’t…[Read more]

Here are the pictures that I came up with. We finally got some snow in New York!😂 I don’t really feel like any are calendar worthy, but I tried to incorporate what I had for landscape in our yard! It doesn’t exactly help that it’s so cold that you can barely adjust the settings on your camera when you shoot in the snow!😀 ~Naomi

I think I would Photoshop the wires out of the pictures of the Yamaha piano.

One interesting thing about Naomi’s piano photos: She had to ask Annabelle and me to hold up a dark sheet in front of other things in the room in order to block the reflection of them. The highly-polished piano was like a mirror! The pedal harp in particular was “painted” all across the front. But holding up the sheet worked! Now I wish I had…[Read more]

I was excited to see this assignment come out, no only because we happen to have a grand piano in our music room, but also because we recently purchased some music albums by the Ziesemer family, and have enjoyed listening to them.😁 Unfortunately, there is little space around our grand piano for it to look like it’s in a studio, but it was a good…[Read more]

I like the first one better because it is brighter. Also, after looking closer, I saw trash on the beach in the dimmer picture! I thought it was birds at first.

Jamie Parfitt replied to the topic Flat Lay in the forum Photo Critique 2 years, 7 months ago
I like the bright second picture best. It looked like a galaxy, and it was pretty to me. I, too, felt like pushing things in from the edges or stepping back a little to include them. I actually don’t understand why it is called flat if it is supposed to have different heights. Anyway, just my two cents. ~ Mrs. Parfitt
