Description
Photography is an entertaining form of expression and communication. Whether you want to tell a story, sell a product or just show others the beauty of your surroundings, photography plays an essential role in fulfilling your desire to express creativity. Photography is an art form, allowing the devoted student to embark on a journey that empowers him to draw with light. Photographers have quite literally “brought light to the world”, opening our eyes to the vast and intricate wonders of creation around us. Now, unlike what much of the Internet has to offer, Lenspiration’s Foundations of Photography Course offers you the opportunity to develop your photography skills in a wholesome environment, with integrity, giving credit to the Creator for the beauty you now seek, and will surely know how to capture by the completion of this course.
From buying a camera, exploring the camera’s controls, and understanding how those controls affect your camera, to grasping the basic pillars of composition and implementing practical ways to organize, edit, and share your pictures, the Foundations of Photography Course will help you master the fundamentals of photography and begin taking the pictures you’ve always wanted to take with confidence.

I’ve only read the first lesson (and scanned a couple others) and I haven’t found the time (or the nerve) to take the quiz… From what I’ve seen it looks very helpful for a beginning photographer, yet even someone who’s been doing photography for a while will probably learn something useful.

Well said Elizabeth! “Very helpful for a beginning photographer, yet even someone who’s been doing photography for a while will probably learn something useful.” Yes I would absolutely recommend it!

I began doing the course just before Capture Vermont, Oct. 2015. I quickly tried to learn as much as I could before Capture started up. I would highly recommend the photography course for anyone. It can be a refresher to those who have been doing photography for awhile, and to a learner who doesn’t have a clue about photography like I did which has not even been a year yet!! I have to say, I learned so much doing the course, and now, submitting pictures and questions for the Pro Critique and Pro Forums. I was about to finish my membership until the Pro Critique started, and once I entered a picture, I began learning so much more. So again, definitely take the course, it will definitely give you the basics at least,…and more!!!

Highly recommend the foundations course! The course is loaded with information. It has been great to refresh what I already know and start working on what I don’t know. Just last week I was outside with my camera and applied a couple things I’d been learning. It was pretty exciting to ‘see’ the difference! 🙂

This course, which was once called the “Basic DSLR Photography Course” is actually quite extensive! In my mind, “Basic” was a bit of an understatement. 🙂 I can’t imagine how much material an Advanced course would cover! I have been through the first 10 lessons, and there are 26 left to go through! They go into detail on just about every photographic topic; obviously James spent a lot of time writing the course! I agree with Melanie’s comment, “the course is loaded with information!” If you’re just getting into photography, this course is going to teach you more than you’ll be able to process at once, that’s for sure! 🙂

It’s a fabulous course! 😀 If you want to learn about heaps of terms and stuff, then it will be perfect for you. I’m planning on going through and reading it again soon. There’s so much information in there that I’m sure I can learn HEAPS going through it again. I’m hoping that there will be a part two one day!! 🙂 But the main thing that really makes me choose this course over all the hundreds of other photography courses out there is that it teaches photography from a Christ centered perspective. So would I recommend it – absolutely!! Thanks so much for putting it together! 🙂

Highly, highly, highly recommended, especially if you are brand-new to photography. Even if you haven’t yet chosen a particular DSLR camera, purchase this course first. It will tell you pretty much everything you need to know to find the one best suited to you.
As I have done much “on-my-own” research to hone my photography skills (and I’ve been teaching myself photography for about two years), most of this course was review. However, this course filled in a few gaps I had missed in my own research.
Especially refreshing was showing up to lesson one and reading the four main things to keep in mind while you photograph. They all equated to loving God in all things—even while releasing a shutter! As a Christian who was getting frustrated by the difficulty of finding wholesome photography education material, I am happy to have found Lenspiration and was glad to relax and simply learn about photography without worrying much about the content in the next lesson.
I did receive this course without charge for signing up for one of James Staddon’s workshops (which also was great)—but if you are just starting out in photography and are clueless as to how to even begin to get the most of your DSLR, I would recommend you take this course. It gives you a broad overview (aka a foundation) on what most of the settings do and how to use them properly to increase your chance of getting a great photo.
I can’t wait to see Lenspiration come out with an advanced course!

Everything from the lessons to the assignments to the quizzes is an excellent mix of challenge and fun, learning and growth. If you’re a beginner and a bit overwhelmed by techie details, there’s enough for you to learn without totally drowning in what there is to know. On the other hand, for more advanced learners, there are plenty of opportunities to dig deeper into the various topics. Having recently completed the course, I heartily recommend it!
