I like the idea. Unfortunately the tongue is cut off and out of focus and underexposed. your eye will be drawn to the lighter portions of the image. You should have plenty of opportunity to get this shot again and again given that its your neighbors’ dog.
I tried cropping it square, de-saturated the background, and increased the exposure at the bottom left corner where the tongue is and added a very light vignette.
