ParticipantTwo years ago I posted a starburst picture of a Christmas tree. (You may view the thread on this link: https://www.lenspiration.com/forums/topic/tis-the-season/) Now, I am submitting a recent shoot of a new (and bigger) tree reinforced with laser lights. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Below are the specs of the photo:
Camera: Panasonic DMC-FZ30
F-stop: f/5
Exposure Time: 6 sec.
ISO Speed: 80
Night Scenery ModeP.S.: Previously, I was told that I should focus on a specific object in the picture. However, my aim was to take a wide angle shot of the tree. Should I consider moving the furniture out of the way?

ParticipantYes I think it would look better if the furniture wasn’t there but that’s just me.

ParticipantI think it would be better without the furniture too, unless you wanted to have a more “homey” feel here. But the laser lights are a little more modern than “homey”, so I think it would look better without the furniture. 🙂 Neat shot though! Maybe if you reshoot it, you could have the Christmas tree in the center of the pic, without anything around it. Just a thought! Y’all have a Merry Christmas!

ParticipantThe electric cord draws my eye-it would look better if you edit it out. I like your tree though.

Participant@joshua_ong I like it without the furniture for sure. And great job editing out the wire – I think it looks better without it.
That’s a really nice shot! Great job.December 17, 2017 at 6:40 am #27929Joshua Ong
ParticipantThanks, @abbie! I’m glad you like it!

ParticipantDefinitely like it better with out the furniture! I didn’t really notice the cord though I guess it depends on what you are using it for. Over all good job!!!

ParticipantI think it looks much better without the cord and the furniture! Good job!

ParticipantThanks, @sarahanne and @jinnyschober, for your nice comments! It’s been a hobby of mine to take starburst pictures of Christmas trees during the festive season. I just love the vibrant splashes of colour! A very Merry Christmas to you all and the Lenspiration community from “down under!”

KeymasterMan, this picture just kept getting better and better! Clean, captivating, vivid, contemporary. You could do a whole series of stock photos…complement your center-aligned photo with variations that are right aligned, left aligned, intentionally out of focus, zoomed in with only a border of tree on either side, vertical orientation….you’ve really got something here that I think would sell well.
My thought on the picture with the couch….what if there was a little boy curled up on the couch just gazing at the tree? Just a thought….

ParticipantThank you very much, James, for the nice comments and wonderful suggestions! I’m happy to explore different aspects in photographing “starburst” Christmas trees. Thanks for boosting my creativity. By the way, are you serious that an amateur like me could actually sell these kinds of pictures? If so, for how much could I sell them?
I’m posting a picture with a right-aligned tree. For those who pay specific attention to details, I would appreciate if you disregard the electric cord for now. Thank you. James, perhaps I could get my youngest brother to pose for me on the couch.
