I am so excited for this assignment!! Flowers are my favorite thing ever to take pictures of! I will have to check my portfolio, as well as take some new ones😀
-LeanneI really enjoyed trying to take as artistic a photo of a rose as I could for this assignment! I did not have any “studio portraits” of flowers in my portfolio, and I had just bought the new flash transmitter/receivers, so this was the perfect opportunity for me.
But don’t feel like you have to go as advanced like I did. One tip about shooting indoors….it can be helpful because you don’t have to worry about wind! Plus, you can be more in control of background.
I hope you will be able to have some higher-end photos of flowers by the end of this assignment too. Feel free to ask any questions here on the forum as you work through the entire process of finding inspiration, a subject to shoot, a location to shoot in, and what lighting or surroundings to use.

I am super excited for this assignment! Flowers are in some ways easier to photograph than other objects such as animals and people.
I can’t wait to go through my previous photos as well as take new ones!!!I’m glad to hear that, @joannapotter!
I had fun doing an indoor shot using window light. To create the green gradient, I held a leaf right next to the lens. I also sprayed on a water/glycerin mixture to get droplets on the flower.
I want to also do an outdoor shot soon. Spring is such a lovely time of year!

Fun seeing the first submissions already! They are beautiful!
Here are mine! The first five are ones I shot specifically for this assignment, and then the rest are from my portfolio.
The first one, (I believe it is a dahlia) you might notice that the curtains in the background aren’t totally straight. I tried straightening it, but it needed the space around it, and none of the other pictures caught the light so good, so I decided to leave it the way it was. Just for fun, I’ll attach a different picture I took in the same photoshoot so you can see the difference.

The first one I actually took a while ago with my canon P&S, but I thought it looked like good enough quality.
The next three are all pictures of apple blossoms from last spring, and the last one is a picture of wild chamomile that I took a couple summers ago.
I had a ton of fun with this assignment!

For the second to last picture I submitted:“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, Because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: Great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; Therefore will I hope in him.
Lamentations 3:22-25 KJVFor the last one:

“O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him all the earth.” -Psalm 96:9 KJV ( I thought that the white rose would especially portray the idea of holiness.)Attachments:
