James StaddonKeymasterI had a lot of fun photographing for this assignment! I hope you do too. 🙂 Other opportunities have come up to photograph this assignment since that initial photo shoot, so I’ll try to post those here later after I’ve processed them.

ParticipantSue and I (Ken) did our initial photo shoot at Silver Sands State Park in CT. We are new at this and went on a very cloudy and grey day so the photos did not come out so well. We then did a 2nd shoot on some trails at Racebrook Track in Orange CT. It was sunny and we had a tripod this time so a little better. We then went back to Silver Sands State Park on a sunny day with a tripod and did better than the first time. This is our first time submitting pictures so hopefully we are doing it right. We sent the full resolution photos and are attempting the reduced size photos here.

James StaddonKeymasterHi @kengoodphoto, it worked! Your photos show up great here, and we received the high res versions via Dropbox. Congratulations on successfully shooting your first Lenspiration photo assignment! I wouldn’t be surprised if you have quite a few path photos in your portfolio from all the hiking you do, but I’m glad you took the opportunity to go out and shoot for this assignment specifically.
A couple of questions to help me prepare for the webinar critique next week…. Setting aside the fact that I already know what part of the country you live in, what season are you intending to depict with your submissions? Also, do you edit your photos on the computer, or are these the originals straight from your camera? Thanks!

ParticipantHi James,
Thanks! Yes the photos are in CT and were taken on January 14th and 15th so are winter photos. The beach photos at Silver Sands may not show it. Most of the photos were edited using the editor in Windows Photo. Two of the photos from Racebrook Track were not edited. Photo 444 and 452 were not edited. Each photo for this section has a suffix of update (if it was edited) and reduce for adjusting the size for review here. So 444 and 452 only have suffix reduce as they were not edited. Hope that makes sense. We are enjoying the course and have learned a lot already.

James StaddonKeymasterWonderful! That’s a great, easy-to-understand file renaming system there. Thanks!

Blessings CapturedParticipantWe were blessed with a nice snow to take seasonal pictures.
I hadn’t thought of it before, but like Mr. Staddon mentioned in the assignment video if the path is all covered with snow it’s hard to see the path. When there was tire tracks it helped it stand out.
In looking at the pictures that ETJ likes, I noticed that they were high contrast and clarity. So on most of the pictures that I submitted I added a little more clarity then I normally do.
I submitted two similar compositions of the barn and then two of the road- just taken at different times. Which ones do you like better?

James StaddonKeymasterWow. Super pretty! Perfectly seasonal. I love them, @blessingscaputred. I like the photo of the barn when it’s overcast, more than the sunny one; just looks less cluttered. Great observations looking at the calendar! That’s the way to do it. You’ve definitely got some winners here.

Jake SchollParticipantAlthough it is snowing in the Panhandle at this time, here in the subtropical climate of Central Florida, there isn’t much that would give the impression of winter, or even fall. However, I have taken many photos of paths in the Tennessee and Kentucky mountains, oftentimes in the fall. I have submitted several of those pictures, as well as a couple of interesting paths here that might work for Spring or Summer. I will be submitting ten pictures with the first group attached to this. This assignment was a lot of fun! –Jake Scholl

Mercy LongParticipantHere are two of the photos I took!
I actually took these just a couple days before I knew what the assignment would be! We had just gotten some beautiful snow, so I wanted to get some photos of it. Now that the assignment is posted, we haven’t gotten any more snow. I would have liked to have some pictures where a path was more prominent, but I don’t think we’re going to get any more snow before the deadline.
@blessingscaptured, I love the picture of the barn with the curving road in front of it! That is so beautiful!January 22, 2025 at 10:49 am #92494
Blessings CapturedParticipantThat is an interesting observation @JamesStaddon how the picture of the barn when it’s overcast is simpler due to the lack of shadows. I hadn’t thought of that.
Thank you @molong. Even though there wasn’t as much snow in that one, I like the perspective. I like your pictures as well, the sunburst really adds to it.
