ParticipantHi Lenspirationers, my question today is about how to do focus stacking in Photoshop using 20 or so images.
I’ll attach the one that I’m working on now. The problem that I have is that I’m not sure how to refine the selection manually, and so the photo is pretty imperfect. I am really new to focus stacking, so I would appreciate any advice!
Also, since I can usually learn best by seeing someone else doing something, I am wondering if anyone else on here knows of a good YouTube video (or the equivalent) on how to focus stack in Photoshop. I have tried to follow a few, but there seems to be something in each video that doesn’t work for me. Thanks!May 26, 2020 at 12:26 pm #50961James Staddon
KeymasterHi @earnestf-lloyd, sorry, your questions somehow slipped my radar!
Are you trying to do it manually, or are you trying to use an auto-stacking feature in Photoshop? I don’t have experience with it, but I think Photoshop has an “Auto-Blend Layers” feature. Did you try the steps outlined in this article? https://photographylife.com/how-to-focus-stack-images

ParticipantI tried to do a focus merge using Photoshop’s “Auto-Blend Layers” feature, and that worked fairly well, but it still was far from perfect.

Yes, but at the end of the video, as he said, there is some manual refining that he does. And that is the part that I don’t understand! 😉
I hope I’m making sense!May 27, 2020 at 10:33 am #50992James Staddon

Good!

Would you mind providing a link to the video that you are referring to here?

ParticipantSure, I think I watched this video right after I visited the link you gave me to Photography Life, so I forgot that the link was different. 🙂

ModeratorI have followed Don Komarechka’s snowflake photography for quite a while, and I know he does a TON of focus stacking. Here’s a video where he talks about some of the tricks he uses. I don’t use PS myself, so I’m sorry I can’t be more of a help…
