I just bought a Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED lens a last week and I pretty sure it was fine when I bought it. I’ve used it twice and then took it out today. The lens was working fine at first, then I noticed a scraping noise when zooming in or out. After returning home I peeled back the rubber zoom grip and there’s a raised bump under the thin plastic covering the zoom ring. I have no idea what could’ve happened. Anyone have any ideas?
Ouch!! 🙁 You said you just bought it recently… Where did you buy it? I hope it was Adorama or B&H so you can return it! That sounds like a serious problem that definitely needs to be looked into by a professional.
@buddingphotographer, I got it from Ebay, and it has free returns. I’m glad it did, if I do end up returning it. My original thought was maybe something had gotten in there, but it appears it may be broken. I guess I’ll get it looked at, and if it is a serious problem I can send it back…
