Hello everyone, urgent request here! (PLEASE READ UPDATES BELOW IN ALL CAPS FROM 6/3/2016)
Ovi, a friend from Romania, has requested an image for a project he is launching! The deadline for submitting an image for this project is midnight, JUNE 6TH whatever your local time is, but to put it in his own words:
Do you think you can challenge your PRO photography group to meet this deadline? I am willing to give $30 for a good picture, and $50 for an excellent picture!
So let us rise to meet the challenge! Ovi is passionate about this project as you can see in the quotes I will use in providing the details here for you:
-
• Requester: Ovi Micula, a Christian friend from Romania
• Purpose: “I would like to ask you to do a background image for the front (and single) page of the website: http://www.read-your-bible.com As you can see, it is just a simple Subscribe homepage, but a good background image is vital.”
• Request: Picture of a person reading their Bible
• Description: “It is a very important picture for the ‘Read your Bible’ program because it will be the visual identity of this program. The focus should be on the Bible, not the person; do not show the face of the person so as to identify them as a man or a woman; it should inspire the joy in the presence of God!; be bright and colorful; highest resolution; and if possible, the person in the picture to be a committed Christian.”
UPDATED, MORE DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Ask the team to consider these additional thoughts regarding the requested picture:
• This picture will be the background for the website, the header for the weekly newsletter (cropped) and what people will share on social media.
• Please keep in mind that the target is of all ages, backgrounds, occupations and spiritual levels.
• This picture needs to show the most common setting for a person reading their Bible. Unfortunately this means the picture cannot be done outdoors (even though I really love the pictures that have nature in the background) and that the person needs to be sitting, not standing. Perhaps most people read their Bible on a couch or at a desk, so I would like to have one of these as the setting/background for the picture.
• If possible, I would like the picture to include a light turned on next to the couch / or on the desk. This is not a “must”, but I think that can help create a “warm” setting. It also can inspire people to wake up early in the morning to meed God and read their Bibles! 🙂
• I would prefer the person to have a shirt (long sleeve). And it doesn’t necessarily need to point with the finger. Don’t forget the focus on the Bible, not the person.
• I would also prefer the Bible to have two-columns on each page (again, that’s what most people use).
• And I’m serious about the $50!!! 🙂• Remuneration: “I am willing to give $30 for a good picture, and $50 for an excellent picture! AND I’m SERIOUS ABOUT THE $50!“
• Terms of Use: Both Ovi and the photographer retain the rights to use the picture at their own discression
• Priority: High!
• Deadline: Midnight, JUNE 6TH
• Contact: Reply to this topic with questions for Ovi
• Other Notes: “Let me tell you what this project is about: The Lord has put on my heart a burden to do something so that beloved believers would draw near to Him, spend time with Him and have a closer, more intimate relationship with Him! I asked God what was it, and He answered me. Three words: Read your Bible! 🙂 If I was asked to say just one thing that would revive a believer’s life, the harmony of a family or the effectiveness of a Church, and would revolutionize their entire existence, and would give them a much deeper and fulfilling meaning, and would give them lasting answers to any problem, that would certainly be: Read your Bible! So this project has a very clear goal: to encourage believers to read their Bibles! How to do that? By sending them every week a short but insightful encouragement to do just that! I think Ovi just wants to make sure the focus is on the Bible and that in general it doesn’t look feminine or masculine at first impression as the program is for both men and women. On another note, here’s a suggestion if you have the time, what sort of pictures do you think you could come up with under a more natural, less direct, and more ambient light setup?
@greghahner, thanks for your submission.May 31, 2016 at 7:19 pm #17145Frazer FamilyParticipantJune 1, 2016 at 3:26 am #17156Caitlin ComptonParticipantJune 1, 2016 at 7:12 am #17161James StaddonKeymasterSO AMAZING!
Yesterday morning I sent Ovi a quick note letting him know that submissions were coming in and this was his reply . . .
Your help encourages me enormously! This is a very challenging period for me with so many things going on (both in our family and in the ministry) and I felt I just didn’t have the energy to look for this picture which is so important for the “Read your Bible” project. I’m so happy and refreshed that the Lord put on my heart to send you an e-mail about it and you’re doing such a great job!! It’s very exciting to learn that there have been two submissions so far!!
Can’t wait to show him the rest of these ideas and any more that might come before midnight tonight!

June 3, 2016 at 10:38 am #17222James StaddonKeymasterWell, @frazer-family, @greghahner, @creative-click-photography and @hannahm, Ovi has reviewed the pictures and . . . has challenged us to push our pictures to the next level! To us, and anyone else who will join in with their submissions, let us use this as an opportunity to continue growing. In his own words:
Thank you for sending the pictures! I’ve received both e-mails and I love them!!!
I appreciate so much the diligence the team put in making these pictures!! They helped me clarify my thoughts and better understand what I need for the “Read your Bible” project. There are several pictures that I was considering, but I would like to share with you further ideas regarding the picture I would like.
So what are his critiques? and how would he like us to do better? Thankfully he has provided some very detailed instructions that will help us on this second round:
“Ask the team to consider these additional thoughts regarding the requested picture:
-
• This picture will be the background for the website, the header for the weekly newsletter (cropped) and what people will share on social media.

Let’s keep pressing on! And remember, the new deadline is midnight June 6th.
June 4, 2016 at 1:57 pm #17237Frazer FamilyParticipantHere’s another idea… I don’t feel that it quite meets the criteria, though, the “bright and colourful” part being rather absent. I’ll have to keep trying.
Oh, and, James, I’m assuming that he wants the Bible to be in English, since he’s writing to you in that language (unless, of course, you’ve been translating his emails for us)? I don’t have a Romanian Bible – Russian or French is the closest I can get.
June 6, 2016 at 10:25 am #17248Frazer FamilyParticipantJune 7, 2016 at 10:57 am #17323James StaddonKeymasterThank you for going the extra mile, @frazer-family. I don’t believe the English language makes a difference. Will see what Ovi has to say now that the second deadline has passed!
June 15, 2016 at 3:05 pm #17403James StaddonKeymasterAnd a winner has been chosen! @Frazer-Family, thank you for your persistence in pursuing this opportunity to the end. Ovi saw your picture, 20160603_ELF_9627.jpg, and said “Wow, James, this is exactly what I had in mind! Praise the Lord!!!”
So, you have earned your $50! You should be hearing from Ovi directly. Thank you for shooting to serve! In conclusion, here is Ovi’s final email to me about this project:
Thank you for your amazing help with the photo for Read your Bible! It was such an incredible experience to collaborate with you guys! I was so encouraged and blessed by you all! – What do you think about the website’s background?
Through the grace of God, Read-Your-Bible.com was launched and our prayer is that it will encourage believers to just grab their Bible and read it! Feel free to share the link!
The Lord give you a wonderful week!
June 20, 2016 at 11:07 am #17468Hannah MooreParticipantCongratulations @frazer-family! Good Job! I’m glad it worked out for Ovi to pick one of these pictures! These are great opportunities to practice for, more than just for yourself!
