I am relatively new to photography and I am taking some of the courses here, and so I am not that good at spotting things that don’t look so good, so I would really appreciate some professional opinion on this.

The lake would maybe look nice in the background if there was more of it showing, but in my opinion its somewhat distracting. The picture also looks heavy on the green. i attached and example of how i would edit the image. Also, i enjoy using 5.6 aperture and zooming in the whole way with my 55-250 lens to get a narrow strip of focus where i place my subject. it looks like you did that as well which looks great; i think it help the picture be less distracting. i attached an example of a picture i took using a low aperture to have more blur!

I like your willingness to get down at a bugs-eye view. It’s amazing what treasures you can collect down there. 🙂 I was just looking at a “professional photographer” 2025 calendar the other day and was struck how just about every single photo looked as though it was taken at about eye-level. There was an overall lack of depth, and a reliance on being at a “wow location.” Your photo could have been taken literally anywhere, from your backyard to a neighborhood park to a river-walk through downtown. You can find things to take pictures of anywhere, if you’re willing to put the time into actually capturing them.
For this photo, it might be nice to see the flowers straight on more, as opposed to seeing them from the side so much? They are otherwise well positioned in the photo, and well framed with foreground blur and background water.
Thanks for the advise from everyone. By the way, Jenna, I don’t know how to edit photos yet, so I couldn’t take out some of that green after I took the picture, but thanks for the tip anyhow. 🙂
