Welcome @oksch!! Nice photo. Would it have been possible to have a different color present besides the greens, yellow, and white? (such as a rock, or the sky, or maybe even some water? 🙂 )
July 31, 2015 at 2:10 pm #12475O. S.Participant@abbie, Thanks! I think there was some water on the pedals. I really appreciate the suggestion. It’s a great, great idea! What do you think of this one?
July 31, 2015 at 2:35 pm #12477Abbie CamusoParticipant@oksch, I love the water on the pedals – that’s always an attraction to me. I also like how the rule of thirds was used, but I might have moved the camera to the right a tad… like this… 😀
July 31, 2015 at 4:21 pm #12479Dan CopeParticipantI like the simplicity of your shot. I wonder if you could have gently bent down the stem on the middle flower to separate it just a bit from the others and make it to be somewhat “facing” the camera.
July 31, 2015 at 6:42 pm #12480Abbie CamusoParticipantI agree with @dan-cope. Also, I would have broken off the dead flower and bud that are to the right of the photo. 🙂
August 3, 2015 at 10:39 am #12513James StaddonKeymasterThe water droplets really make these shots, @oksch!
I find it intriguing that you cropped these pictures 1:1. Is that your typical style?
The first shot looks to be underexposed.
I do like that the second shot has a second flower in the composition, blurred out in the background. Neat effect. Are you familiar with the tool of odds? Perhaps with your next flower shot, you could include a second blurred flower in the background to create an odd number of pink splashes.
August 3, 2015 at 1:19 pm #12522O. S.ParticipantI’m not familiar with the tool of odds, @james staddon. As far as the underexposed part, I’ll try to fix that in LR:). And for the cropping, I think I cropped it like that for the rule of thirds;). Would it have been better to not make it square? Thanks so much for your tips!
August 4, 2015 at 10:57 am #12553James StaddonKeymasterThe “tool of odds” suggests that an odd number of subjects in an image is more interesting than an even number. So, if you have more than one subject in your picture, the suggestion is to choose an arrangement with at least three subjects, the three pink flowers instead of two.
Nope! Square cropping makes not difference and can be a great artistic effect. It’s my style to keep the 4:3 ratio most the time, but everybody has their own preferences, likes, dislikes and unique way of doing things!
August 4, 2015 at 12:57 pm #12566Abbie CamusoParticipant@jamesstaddon – I’d never heard of the “tool of odds” before either! I’ll keep it in mind. 🙂
