NickyParticipantI would love to be able to catch one in mid flight, but it’s simply almost impossible with the camera I am using, since it only has automatic focus, so I can’t keep the camera centered on the bird in the air and as a result the camera can’t focus on it.

NickyParticipantThank you!
While my family and I were out on a walk on an asphalted trail (in Indiana) we saw this hawk on the power lines (since they went along the trail) and we were able to get as close as we wished, as long as we moved slowly. As for when I took a picture of it, it was somewhere around 4 o’clock in the afternoon; it was a little cloudy but I was able to get the sky to be blue in the edit (The bellow picture is the original). The reason why I have never been able to get a good picture of a hawk or falcon before was any one of these reasons: it was too far or too dark or too much branches were in the way or if it was in a good position for a picture as soon as he would see me he would fly away. Anyways the camera that I used (and am still using) was a point-and-shoot Kodak camera. Here are the settings I used:
ISO: 80
Metering made: spot
Exposure bias: 0
Exposure time: 1/200 sec
The focal length I think was either 830mm or 720mm (since my camera has what some people call a super-zoom lens which starts from 24mm but has 40 optical zoom)
As for Aperture I am certain that it was like f/6.6 but when I look at the properties for the picture it says f/5.(Here is the link for the camera from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Kodak-AZ401RD-Point-Digital-Camera/dp/B073JVXDKV/ref=pd_rhf_se_s_gcx-rhf-c_d_sccl_2_1/137-8146558-8113556?pd_rd_w=QfN92&content-id=amzn1.sym.774fc7e2-6ae5-430c-b491-f6c16c9d12a8&pf_rd_p=774fc7e2-6ae5-430c-b491-f6c16c9d12a8&pf_rd_r=03CS0AKMBPJJ84BHF960&pd_rd_wg=BIjFj&pd_rd_r=2e12d790-0c7b-430c-a83b-20c6ce01741c&pd_rd_i=B073JVXDKV&th=1)

NickyParticipantThanks for the advise from everyone. By the way, Jenna, I don’t know how to edit photos yet, so I couldn’t take out some of that green after I took the picture, but thanks for the tip anyhow. 🙂

NickyParticipantEven though this post is about the sun and not other stuff, I would still like to add something that I noticed and that is that the second picture looked a little dark to me I don’t know if that was your intention but, in my opinion, it would have looked a bit better if it was a bit brighter. Beside that, I think everything else that needs to have been said, was already said from previous comments. Anyways those are still pretty good pictures, I think the first one would be my favorite. 🙂

NickyParticipantReally nice photos especially for somebody who is just starting to do photography a little more seriously. The main thing I probably would have done differently is changed the exposure of the last three where more detail of the flowers would definitely have improved the pictures over all. besides that I would have maybe tried, if possible, to put the tree as much as I could to the side so that it was just part of the frame of the picture, since lines (especially diagonal ones) can be very distracting to the eye. Besides the things I mentioned everything looks really nice.

NickyParticipantThank you for the tips, appreciated it.
Actually the place I took it at is not the only impressive thing about how the picture turned out. First, I used a simple inexpensive point and shoot camera, so I was pleasantly surprised that it could make the shot. Second, I haven’t done any post processing, because, sadly, I can’t do it yet. Anyways, thank you for your time and opinion.December 18, 2024 at 3:15 pm #91754 -
