Ryan MadarisParticipantIf I want to sell prints of my photos, should I put a watermark with my photography business name in a corner of my photograph, or should I leave it out? How do I keep someone from saying they took the photograph?

Eliana FranzenburgParticipantDefinitely put a watermark on the photos, Especially if you are selling them online. If you don’t want to do a watermark you could try more of a logo type of thing which you can hide better but in a way that you can still see it. 🙂

Sarah LewisParticipantHow do you put a logo r watermark on your photos? Please pardon my ignorance! 🙂 thanks

Ryan MadarisParticipant@sarahanne, you can use Adobe Illustrator, but I just use preview. You can’t make it look as nice as with Adobe Illustrator, but it’s free. If you use Adobe Illustrator, you can get a free trial, and save the logo that you make.

Sarah LewisParticipantOh, thank you. Do I just google adobe illustrator to get it? Thanks!!!!!

Eliana FranzenburgParticipant@sarahanne you can also google “logo maker” and there are lots of websites that will design one for you.

Sarah LewisParticipantDoes that cost? if so, how much? And what do I google to find those websites? thanks

Sarah LewisParticipantMy dad says that he has a logo for himself but he doesn’t know how to apply it to his pics. Does anyone know how to do that? Thanks again. 🙂
January 18, 2018 at 7:48 pm #28442
Ryan MadarisParticipantYou might be able to do it through Lightroom, or Preview, if you have a Mac. I think Adobe Illustrator is somewhere around $20.00 a month.

Sarah LewisParticipantMy dad doesn’t have either of those apps so I dn’t know. Is Adobe Illustrator worth the 20 bucks a month?

Ryan MadarisParticipant@sarahanne, I’m not sure, because I don’t have it. I heard from a friend that it has a bit of a learning curve though.

David FrazerParticipantIf you don’t mind trying new programs, you can try Inkscape to make your logo – it’s free. What program do you currently use to edit your photos? Most photo editing programs that support RAW files also have a way of adding your logo once it is made.

James StaddonKeymasterIf you’re printing a picture, do not print them with a watermark on them. If you’re delivering a high res image to someone who has purchased the digital file, do not give them a watermarked image either. Watermarks should only be used when your photo is displayed online to the general public.
Adobe Illustrator is an extremely advanced program that is used to create vector illustrations. Some people use it to make logos. It will not help you add a logo to an image though.
The best way to quickly add a watermark to an image is to use Lightroom. Here’s an article that explains how to do it well (along with a lot of other good watermarking tips): https://photographylife.com/how-to-watermark-images-in-lightroom

Sarah LewisParticipantI just use Picassa 2010 verison and Photos. I would love Photoshop but I don’ have it on my computer. 🙁

Ryan MadarisParticipant@jamesstaddon, thanks! I’ll won’t watermark them then.
