Loewen FamilyParticipantBeautiful photos, Rebecca!
Everyone has done such a good job!!April 19, 2025 at 8:57 pm #95293David Parris
ParticipantEveryone’s photos look amazing: great job!! These are my pictures. I have had lots of fun with this assignment!! My brother and I got up at 5:30 am. 3 mornings in the last 2 weeks to get some shots at the lake. ( One of my sisters came with us the first morning.🙂) There is an exceptionally pretty location about 3 1/2 miles up a canal off of the lake, and it’s also a great spot for bird photography, so we got a couple of photos there. All of these pictures were taken in the early morning, although the kayak one looks like a cloudy day.

ParticipantHere are Joshua’s submissions. I enjoyed the early morning aspect of this assignment. 🙂 While we were out kayaking around our lake, looking for good subjects/backgrounds, we encountered a beaver swimming in the water. You can see him in one of my photos making a ripple in front of the double kayak on the left side of the picture.

Laura LaneParticipantHere are some of my submissions! It worked out really well that, even though this assignment was running for only a short time, we happened to be taking the early morning ferry as we were travelling to the North Island for an Easter camp…and even though it was cloudy, the sun came out at the right time for some photos.

ParticipantThank you for the suggestions Rebekah Parris. I will have to find a good excuse to get up early again to try them.
BTW – I really like the photos you and your siblings took while kayaking. The mist definitely adds to the early morning feel. Great job!!April 21, 2025 at 2:51 pm #95326
Lydia BennettKeymasterWow, it was very impressive to see everyone who took the time to get up early and go out to take pictures for this assignment! And the creativity in the subjects was very enjoyable as well. The pictures have been sent off for review, so we’ll look forward to seeing who is chosen as winners!
If you haven’t already registered for the LIVE photo coaching webinar, it’s tomorrow, Tuesday April 21 at 7 PM EDT. Here’s the link to register, so be sure to join us there! I don’t know about you all, but I’m looking forward to hearing some feedback & critique from James on all these photos!

Lydia BennettKeymasterDoes anyone have some good tips for shooting in low light or early in the morning? (I didn’t have this issue last time I photographed sunrise, but that was on a clear morning.) Thanks for the help!
@joannapotter, if you’d like to share more about the camera settings you were using or any of the photos you took, for tomorrow’s webinar, feel free to post that on the forum here or email either James or myself directly with that information!April 21, 2025 at 3:55 pm #95329
James StaddonKeymasterI was busy over the weekend so was unable to see your submissions come in, but I did just now go take a look and I am blown away!!
So many incredible places and creative ideas! It’s amazing how morning-like all these photos are. And they are all the more impressive when I think that they required getting up so early to take.
@samuelwest and @chingclan10, what incredible sunrises God gave you all! Tell your siblings/father they did a GREAT job posing for you. The whole @parrisfamily tribe, what a fun and photographically fruitful kayaking excursion that looked to be! I can’t get over the snowcapped mountains, @loewfam. And good idea, @laura-aome, to go high-key and expose for the foreground. The background still glows with that special morning light.
@joannapotter, I’m so sorry you were having camera issues! The best way for me to diagnose the issue would be to see your photos and the specs that were used. The location, light levels, and camera settings all play into figuring out how to do it better. Perhaps you could start a new thread in the Critique Forum? https://www.lenspiration.com/forums/forum/photo-critique/April 22, 2025 at 11:04 am #95331David Parris
Participant@joannapotter Thank you, Joanna! I was so grateful that the Lord sent the mist that morning or the photos would not have looked very morningish.😏 I hope that everything goes well for you! ~Rebekah

Lydia BennettKeymasterThank you again to every one who participated in this assignment! You all showed dedication and creativity!
It was a great webinar on Tuesday, wasn’t it?! So neat to hear Donald’s perspectives on the photos, as well as James’ critique. Here’s the replay link for those who missed it or want to re-watch.
And congratulations to @laura-aome, @parrisfamily and @darien-radcliffe on having your photos chosen as winners for the assignment!
