Hi Peanut and welcome! The most obvious improvement you could make would be to level the horizon. As for composition, I think I would have moved the sun a little farther into the frame and found a way to make the reflection of the sun more visible instead of mostly hidden by the foreground vegetation. Perhaps you could have even put the foreground elements on the right side of the composition, although I do like the way the angle leads toward the sun. Also, you could have made it an HDR photo by taking another exposure that would have brought out the detail in the foreground and then blending the two exposures. You did a great job on capturing a beautiful sunset!

Don’t you love sunsets?! You’ve even got some clouds in that shot. The presence of clouds really help in sunrise/sunset shots. They help to add a little texture and color to the sky. Sometimes, they make fantastic shapes and can be used as leading lines to direct the eye.
I used clouds to direct the eye toward the setting sun in this picture I took not too long ago in Minnesota. In the attachment, can you see how the clouds are acting as leading lines to direct the eye into the scene? As an added bonus, the reflection of the clouds in the lake are pointing inward too! (I didn’t even notice that when I was taking the picture, believe it or not!)
There are lines everywhere around us! Look around and see how you can include them in your shots. Perhaps the silhouetted foreground? or clouds on the other side of the sun?
@dan-cope had some good ideas too. Glad you had your camera out for that sunset!- This reply was modified 54 years, 9 months ago by .
