We were driving past this barn on the way back from orchestra practice, and my mom stopped for about 5 minutes so I could get this photo. I used a flashlight to light up the barn and some of the grass.

@rmadaris, this is a pretty cool idea to take pictures at night. The only thing I would change is it’s a little dark to see the subject. When lightning it, you lose clarity. I also like the stars in the sky in a “daytime” theme. So basically, if I was taking the picture for quality, I would do it during the day. But for a neat project, this is awesome!January 31, 2018 at 3:45 pm #28719
@hayhand02, alright, sounds good. Next time we drive past it in the daytime, I’ll try to get a photo then.January 31, 2018 at 5:18 pm #28720John MachenParticipant
@rmadaris, I’ll look forward to it!
Another cool thing to do at night if you haven’t already done this is on a tripod, point your camera at the North star and set it to a slow shutter speed. (You’ll have to experiment a little with settings.) The result is a pretty swirl of stars centered on the North star.January 31, 2018 at 6:36 pm #28724February 1, 2018 at 10:13 am #28726Dara CochranParticipant
Very nice photo! I agree with @hayhand02 it is a little dark. The way you framed this is perfect. I think it would be nice if you added some contrast to this photo in editing. The flashlight makes the photo look a bit unnatural but other then that this is an amazing photo, good job 😀February 1, 2018 at 10:49 am #28728
@dara__cochran, thank you! Next time I’ll take 2 exposures, one for the stars, and one for the barn, and then stitch them together to create a better balanced photo.February 7, 2018 at 3:29 pm #28827James StaddonKeymaster
That is so nice of your mom! That’s the perfect little barn in the perfect setting. Next time make sure it’s tack sharp focus (if AF doesn’t work on the apex of the barn there where it meets the sky, use MF; as needed, take a test shot at a high ISO, check, and tweak until perfect). The flashlight idea is a good one!February 7, 2018 at 5:23 pm #28837
@jamesstaddon, I’ll do that. Here are 2 more photos of the barn in the daytime.February 17, 2018 at 11:29 am #29029James StaddonKeymaster
Very pretty location! It’s nice that there aren’t many distractions around it and that you can get angles that are not “straight on”. I wonder if there is a time of day when it would be in full sunlight.February 17, 2018 at 1:59 pm #29046
