ModeratorChallenge: A 16:9 wallpaper of Proverbs 3:5-6
End of Challenge: February 14th
———
Good Morning Lenspirationers!
Back in August, I broke the news that I wouldn’t be able to do any more VersePic Opportunities until I got back from California in April. Some of you suggested that in the VPO’s absence, we run a challenge to let you guys create your own VersePics. A lot of people really liked the idea of searching through their archives, using old photos, and getting creative with their design skills, so here we are!
(If you still aren’t sure what I’m talking about, you can go ahead and read the thread I’m referring to here: https://www.lenspiration.com/forums/topic/friendship/page/2/
_
HOW WILL THIS WORK?I’m challenging you to take the verse(s) of my choice and create a 16:9 wallpaper out of it.
- First, pick a photo from your archives or go out and shoot something that embodies the passage’s message or mood.
- Then, find a creative way to place the full passage and reference on your photo. Go crazy, experiment, and have fun, but make sure that we can still read the verse and find the reference when you’re done!
- Finally, upload your submission as an attachment below.
Throughout the challenge, I’ll be looking through the comments to answer any questions you have, help out with some tips and critique on creating better designs, and pick a winner when the challenge is finished. Again, this challenge is just for fun, so the winner will not receive any compensation. If James really likes the wallpapers you create, though, he might just ask to put it in the monthly Lenspiration newsletter!
_
IN SUMMARY:- 1. I’ll choose a verse and post it here on the forums.
- 2. Lenspirationer’s can come up with their own photo ideas and design the verse on their photos to create a 16:9 desktop wallpaper.
- 3. I’ll act as a judge/host over the submissions by giving helpful tips and picking a winner!
If you have any questions, leave a comment below and I’ll get to it as soon as I can.

LET’S GET INTO THE CHALLENGE!This time, I’m challenging you to make a wallpaper out of Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”The challenge will end on February 14th—Valentines Day!
I’m excited to see what you guys come up with. I hope you’ll have as good a time with this challenge as I will!
Good luck!
Ben

ParticipantShould watermarks be included or excluded?

ModeratorGood question @bennett-family. I’d prefer for the wallpapers not to have watermarks, but as this is for fun and not for a work assignment, I’m okay with you leaving them in. Please just make sure that if you do leave any watermarks in, they aren’t super noticeable or take away from the verse. This is why I typically reduce the opacity of our watermarks for the VersePics. I don’t want them to be to focal point of the VP!

ParticipantI hope this hasn’t been covered already, but how do we know we have created 16:9? Is that a setting in Lightroom? ~ momparfitt

ModeratorGood Evening Mrs. Parfitt!
I don’t personally use Lightroom, so I’m not totally sure of where exactly in the software you would go to change your ratio to 16:9, but yes, it is a setting in Lightroom.
Look for the crop tool. You should be able to change the ratio and there should be an option for 16:9 in the list of presets. If not, set a custom ratio of 16:9 there and crop.
If you aren’t sure of where the crop tool is or how to work with it, here’s a tutorial from Adobe on the crop tool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzgnUmS9J8U Hopefully that’ll help!
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

ParticipantThanks for the quick answer, Ben! We will have to take a look at it tomorrow. Naomi loves to take pictures with spaces left for verses. This will be a fun assignment for everyone! Actually, that doesn’t sound quite reverent. I mean that it will be pleasant to mesh photography skills with thinking deeper about what the verses mean and how we can find pictures that bring out that meaning. A good exercise for any Christian to look around him/herself and see Scripture examples in his/her surroundings.

Good to know! 🙂
