I would recommend the Canon 80D. I was able to buy mine for around $850 and I absolutely love it. I upgraded from the canon rebel T5.
The 80D has a 45-point AF system and a flip out screen which really comes in handy. I also use it for filming a lot for my YouTube music videos and it has amazing video quality as well.I’m sure @jamesstaddon would have more information on different cameras but this has been my experience with the 80D.

I can not recommend them enough.

Since then I’ve started using Dropbox and that is my favorite way to deliver photos to clients. You just upload your photos to a folder then send a link to your clients and they can download the photos without having to create an account or anything.

I’m also having trouble with the theme of “ornate”. One idea I had was a photo of an eye (you can’t get much more ornate in design than an eye in my opinion) or maybe some type of glass work but don’t know how I would go about either of those…April 1, 2020 at 1:44 pm #49927Eliana FranzenburgParticipant@ernestf-lloyd Thanks! I will check these out!
It would help me out if I knew what your budget range is, and what features you are wanting. 😉 🙂
I don’t really want to spend more the $30 considering all the ones I’ve gotten before have broken. Wireless is a must (so I can be in my photos), and I would like it to be able to shoot in bulb mode.
Hope that helps! 🙂February 15, 2020 at 7:49 pm #48732Eliana FranzenburgParticipantYeah @jamesstaddon I have another angle for the water drops but all I have for the flowers are where they fill the whole frame. I’ll upload them just so they can see the options.
February 13, 2020 at 9:23 pm #48687Eliana FranzenburgParticipantHere are my submissions!
I saw the “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”
so why not try to portray the words of the lord quite literally with the bible! I added the cross to get the silver part of the verse as well. (I may or may not have gotten some inspiration from @jamesstaddon 😉December 6, 2019 at 7:13 pm #47075Eliana FranzenburgParticipantSo these are what I was able to get. It’s a baby grand and the top didn’t open so I didn’t have that option. There was very little room to be able to fit all of the piano in frame but I did the best I could. The church had Christmas decorations up so I had to do a lot of editing to remove those.
It was very fun, and also an exercise in moving very fast. I had 20 minutes to take photos so I was just a little rushed 🙂
November 15, 2019 at 7:59 pm #46532Eliana FranzenburgParticipantIs black & white ok? Would having music on the piano work? Or would they possibly want a person in the photo? (learning how to play piano?)
September 13, 2019 at 8:53 pm #44121Eliana FranzenburgParticipantWould we need a model consent form? Is there a preferred number and age of the kids?

I still keep trying every time I see one although I’ve never gotten a good photo till one day.
I was photographing some lavender that my Grandma grows, there were some bees and butterfly buzzing doing their jobs pollinating and such. I didn’t pay much attention to them as I main interest was the lavender. After some time I noticed that there was one butterfly just siting at my feet completely comfortable with me and my camera. Once I noticed it I thought I’d try to get a good photo. I had to quickly change my settings and frame the photo well and in the end I finally got my butterfly photo.
August 19, 2019 at 6:21 pm #43101Eliana FranzenburgParticipantWould a butterfly work? Do we submit the story along with the photo or do we have to do something else?
July 18, 2019 at 11:03 pm #42100Eliana FranzenburgParticipantI’ve started shooting in RAW recently just as it seems to produce more detailed/sharper photos. I have a Mac so I mainly use the “Photos” app (which works extremely well for what I do) and Photoshop Elements for any in depth editing. The only problem I have when editing is that my laptop is quite old so it can be slow processing the larger files. (I have a Canon 80d so the file size is around 18-24 MG I know that different cameras have different RAW file sizes)
On the topic of narrowing photos down I always wait till the next day after shooting so I have a fresh mindset and mark my favorites then just slowly narrow them down depending on how they look after any editing is done.
Hope that helps!
July 3, 2019 at 2:37 pm #41666Eliana FranzenburgParticipantTo expand on what @loganlamar said, the distance is very important to get the background blur you want. I don’t have as much experience with groups but with individual portraits if you have an aperture of f/8 you need to be at least 6 feet away from your background to get it blurred.
When I do have groups I’ll usually start with about f/8 then just play around with it if you have more people.
Also one tip I read once for focusing with large groups is to focus on the person in the middle front row and that should make look pretty good depending on the aperture.
Hope that helps!
