I took this using on old Minolta 50mm attached to my a7ii. Its actually a 4 shot panorama. I tried shooting in lowest ISO possible and I still see quite a bit of noise on the focused area. I don’t if my camera is not functioning properly or its a setting. I notice noise on pretty much all of the pictures I take... Read More »

@bennett-family Before we get into pros and cons, I would ask two questions: Can you afford Lightroom? You were originally looking for free software, so is a one time $150 purchase even really on the table at the moment? If not, you don’t have to worry about that option. If it is in your budget, … why are we... Read More »

Thanks, James for that info! @bensharpeningcharacter, you make a good point about thinking more long-term. Thanks! So I don’t know how hard this will be to answer, but do you have suggestions for figuring out what program to get? There’s obviously a lot of info on different programs out there, but as I... @hannah, @jamesstaddon and @vince I really don’t know how/why the font is all caps, I use Photoshop Elements and sometimes it just decides it doesn’t want to work. @bensharpeningcharacter Yes, it does make sense 🙂 Thank you for your edit of my photo. Once I fix Photoshop I’ll redo it using your... Read More »

Reply To: Shooting in RAW?!

“In-camera editing” is a very broad term, encompassing many different specific settings or features on a camera. If you’re shooting in JPG, most in-camera adjustments are already being applied. Read More »

You do not need to be online for Lightroom either, even the Creative Cloud version. You will need to be online to download it initially, update it when updates are available or sync photos online (if you ever want to do that), but not otherwise. Read More »

Sweet! I hadn’t seen your website before! Yes, local advertising (through your local paper, putting flyers and business cards out and such) and of course repeat customers and word of mouth is going to be your strongest point. Think about what your potential customer is doing and looking at and see if you... Read More »

One quick thought Eliana. What James and Lydia were referring to was the idea of visual balance. When people say something is crowding to one side, what they mean is that there is too much of one thing to that one side and not enough of it on the other to “balance everything out.” Thinking in terms of shapes and... I’m an Affinity user on Windows so I can safely say it doesn’t need the internet once the software has been fully downloaded. (You’ll definitely want to open it the first time on the internet just to make sure everything has been downloaded.) I don’t have a lot of experience with free Windows software, but I would... @buddingphotographer, thanks for that info! That’s helpful to know about Lightroom and Affinity. I’m also guessing that internet connection is not needed for Lightroom or Affinity once they are downloaded and installed? I started looking over forum conversations on these programs, and there seems to be a... Read More »

@bennett-family, both RawTherapee and GIMP work just fine without an internet connection once they are downloaded and installed. You don’t have to pay monthly for Lightroom, you can pay $150 up-front and keep it for the rest of your life if you want to. 🙂 Keep in mind that eventually it will get old, and newer... Read More »
