Reply To: Expertise on a Proposal Photoshoot

Thanks for your advice and blessings in the New Year! The proposal photoshoot actually took place the afternoon you replied, but I didn’t read it until the day after. However, I was thankful to find out that my sister, Allie, and I did almost every little thing you said to do, which reassured us that it was... Read More »

My sister, niece and I visited with a dear, precious 95-year-old this past weekend and I was so blessed. This woman radiates such joy and love! It was precious to see her interactions with my little niece as she sang and talked to her. A vivid picture to me of the verse, “One generation shall praise thy works... Read More »

Here are my submissions for this wonderful assignment! I got a chance to go to my grandma’s place and she was glad for the chance to go on a photoshoot with me. 🙂 I hope these photos are something like what you are looking for! Read More »

Yes I’ve opened vectors in Photoshop, but I don’t know what Photoshop does with them after that. Right, it can open them, but can’t save a “true” vector file. If your print shop absolutely REQUIRES a vector file in order to print, then you’ll need to use Illustrator/Inkscape (or find a... Read More »

Yes I’ve opened vectors in Photoshop, but I don’t know what Photoshop does with them after that. I’m going to have it printed at a local shop, I’ll have to get with them on recommended resolutions. When you say “bleed”, are you talking about the couple inches around the edge of the... Read More »

So if I want to use Photoshop I would have to do a file 24″x72″ at 300dpi? Correct, but you only need 150 DPI. 🙂 Just create a new file with those dimensions, add your text/vector graphics (making sure to leave at least an inch of margin all the way around to keep any important info from getting cut off) and then... Correct me if I’m wrong, but Photoshop can open vector files. Is that not all that is needed to design a banner? Unless you need to save a vector file, I don’t think you need Inkscape/Illustrator. @blessingscaptured, how do you plan to print this banner? Your printing company should certainly have... OK, I didn’t know that Photoshop didn’t do vector shapes. So even though I place a vector shape into the file, it converts it to something else? So if I want to use Photoshop I would have to do a file 24″x72″ at 300dpi? Thanks, I’ll look into... Read More »

Just to be clear, a Photoshop file 24″x72″ at 300dpi would definitely be enormous because Photoshop does not do vector shapes. You need a vector program. In the Adobe suite, that would be Illustrator. A free alternative would be Inkscape. Read More »

I need some help with a 2’x 6′ banner I’m designing in Photoshop. I’m going to be using only vector shapes and text. When I create a new file, do I make it 2’x 6′ and then 300 ppi? Is that the only way to do it, because that’s going to be an enormous file. Thanks for any... Read More »

I like the first two shots best. I suggest using the brush tool to boost the exposure on the squirrel’s body. It’s a little underexposed. Read More »

How fun! You know, I looked at the pictures before I read what you had written, and I thought to myself, these look like they were shot through a window. And then I read the text, and saw they had been! 🙂 It really would have been nice to try to open the window if possible, or just get outside, as the window adds a... Read More »

“One Picture Only!”
It’s pretty funny what happened on a recent photo excursion I went on with a friend. 🙂 I’ll let John tell it to you in his own words . . .  When was the last time you went to photograph an epic location and only took ONE photo? Recently I had a friend in town (i.e. Mr. Lenspiration 🙂 ) for a few days, and... Read More »

Two squirrels were under the bird feeders the other day, a red and a grey. I got down to ground level by shooting out a basement window. Any thoughts or critiques are appreciated! Read More »

I suppose everyone’s pretty busy with their own secret Christmas plans! 🙂 I did a proposal this past summer that was a huge challenge. It was at dusk (almost dark) and happening on the porch of an old cabin lit only by candle/lantern light and Christmas lights! The only place to “hide” was behind a... Read More »
