My brother Jonathan and I have spent the last few days hiking and scouting out the Linville area in final preparation for the CAPTURE North Carolina workshop! Even in as naturally beautiful a location as this section of the Blue Ridge Parkway, “wow” pictures do not happen by themselves. It takes a lot of work to find the perfect locations and I am confident that we will not be disappointed during the workshop.
Here are a few shots from our excursions:

Have fun at the workshop! The photos look beautiful!! Hey, can you do a tutorial to show how to do rays coming out of the sun? Thanks. 🙂
Sun rays are awesome! I didn’t do it here in this picture because I wasn’t shooting from a tripod at the moment and there was a layer of clouds covering the sun. But if it’s direct sunlight, shoot with a narrow aperture and partially block the sun with a distinct object. That should get you started!
So those are shots from somewhere in the US?
Actually, of course the answer is yes! But the way you framed each shot is outstanding. You know what it takes to make a really happy viewer. When I see your pictures I don’t feel that urge to analyze or critique it. I feel like sitting back and enjoying it for what it is, marveling that it is a real photograph of a real place–another one of those great places that you saw and wanted to share with us.
Thank you brother!
It really is amazing how much beauty there is close to home. It certainly does help to go somewhere known for it’s beauty, but even in those locations, it’s easy to miss the hidden treasures that the main attraction causes to be overlooked.
