Behind the Shot: Spot of Green

It wasn’t the best sunset in the world, that balmy evening I spent with Jonathan on top of Enchanted Rock in Texas earlier this month, but I was very grateful that the clouds broke away just enough to make a sunburst for that one, single composition I had figured would be the best when we first arrived.

The beautiful, curved shape of the seemingly-unnaturally-trimmed grass I wasn’t able to find in any other “oasis” on the Rock, and the vibrant green color stood in nice contrast to the cool, barren rock surrounding it. Seldom do I happen upon such clean cut shapes in nature!

To capture this scene looking directly into the sun, I shot three different exposures and merged them later in Photoshop using a new “matching” method I had just learned about and had never used before. It’s the best blending method I’ve tried yet! You can try it out yourself by following the step by step processes outlined in Jimmy McIntyre’s video, Blending ANY Exposures With This Tip.
