It wasn’t the best sunset in the world, that balmy evening I spent with Jonathan on top of Enchanted Rock in Texas earlier this month, but I was very grateful that the clouds broke away just enough to make a sunburst for that one, single composition I had figured would be the best when we first arrived.

The beautiful, curved shape of the seemingly-unnaturally-trimmed grass I wasn’t able to find in any other “oasis” on the Rock, and the vibrant green color stood in nice contrast to the cool, barren rock surrounding it. Seldom do I happen upon such clean cut shapes in nature!

To capture this scene looking directly into the sun, I shot three different exposures and merged them later in Photoshop using a new “matching” method I had just learned about and had never used before.
