In my previous post I described my icy venture into sub-zero temperatures to photograph this month’s photo assignment, The Solid Rock. Being away from home, I used what I could think of in the vicinity, and the stately, stone structures that dot the landscape of Quebec provided an enjoyable subject to shoot.
But I didn’t want to stop there. I knew I had plenty of rock photos from many an excursion in my past, and I wondered what potential submissions I could find in my portfolio. So I opened Lightroom and searched “rock.” And, oh, what a variety of scenes came popping up!
A family vacation out West. Coopers Rock State Forest, here in West Virginia. Battle Rock Beach in Oregon. So many wonderful memories piled up in one place! I was enjoying looking at my wonderful little “rock collection”.

And that’s when the thought struck me, “all these beautiful photos from my rock collection illustrating Christ our Rock . . . you know, we have another wonderful ‘Rock collection’ of Bible verses in Scripture!”
Let me share some that came to mind . . . some are not as glamorous as we might think!
A Rock Collection of Bible Verses
1 Peter 2:7-8 . . . this one came up this week while I was listening to the Bible while washing a pile of dishes for Julianna. To us who believe, Jesus is precious, “but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient . . .”

But this is not the attribute of our Rock that we were intending to illustrate with this assignment. 🙂 Lets explore around a bit more.
The first verse of the hymn, the Solid Rock, says, “I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name,” a reminder of some Bible verses from Isaiah, “. . . Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation . . .” (Isaiah 28:15).

Jesus is my Anchor, “both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; whither the forerunner is for us entered . . .” (Hebrews 6:19).
Thus, I can sing, “In every high and stormy gale, my Anchor holds within the veil.”

Matthew 7:24-27 tells us about how those who hear Jesus’ sayings, but do not do them, are like a foolish man who builds his house on sand which can be swept away. Whereas, “whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.”
When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.

In the desert, the Israelites “…drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted” (I Corinthians 10:4-6).

No matter how degenerate the populous may become, the landscape itself will still cry out in glory to its Creator, “Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest” (Luke 19:38-40)!

“From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhemed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy” (Psalm 61:2-3).

There are many more photos in my rock collection I could share, many of which are chuck full of analogy!

But may this just be the beginning of your own escapades into meditating on the wonderful Rock collection of Bible verses in Scripture that apply to you and the specific needs you are facing today!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.

Gorgeous photos! Praise the Lord for His Steadfastness and Enduring Love!
