Looking for an Overlook
Just outside of Knoxville, an overpass crosses Interstate 75 at the top of a very large hill. Because I had been on the road for several hours, I decided to take the exit, stop on the overpass and see if it was high enough to see the mountain ranges in the...

Appalachian Sunset Have you ever become frustrated with imperfect equipment during an otherwise perfectly wonderful photoshoot? During my recent trip through the Blue Ridge mountains I experienced these feelings as I attempted to shoot the beautiful scenery along...
Entertaining Evening
Have you ever been having so much fun that you forget to make sure you are not missing any of your photographic gear? Last week, after a full, productive day helping the Wilkes family where I could on the new home they are building, it was suggested that we visit a...
The Blue Ridge Parkway
Instead of taking the Interstate on my way from Ashville, North Carolina to Culpeper, Virginia, I decided to take the Blue Ridge Parkway a full 200 miles from the southern border of Virginia to Charlottsville, located in the north-central part of the state. The...
Mountain Vista
As of Monday, I’ve been attending the International CEF Conference in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Ashville, North Carolina. On my spare time, I’ve taken the time to hike around the beautiful Ridgecrest Conference Center property, complete with ball fields, hiking...
Precarious Banquet
I decided to wait just a little bit longer to see if the Tamias Sibiricus would return to it’s precarious banquet table. After hiking down the trail for only a few minutes, I spotted this little Korean Chipmunk gnawing on a nut in a tree. Because I had my wide...
Bad Weather
Not too long ago, I read a photography tip from another nature photographer: learn to love bad weather. I wasn’t too sure about this, but I couldn’t help but think about this comment when I saw the weather forecast for last Saturday. Saturday was going to be a...

Spring Overlook Having spent this entire month in South Korea taking photography sorties on a regular basis, it was not easy to choose a pick from the sizeable archive. But I narrowed it down to this one because of the steps that led up to it’s creation. It was...
Invest What it Takes
From the window of our office apartment, a large mountain commands the attractive view of the distant horizon. When I first arrived in South Korea a few weeks ago, Adam, my coworker, told me we should really plan a hike out there before I left. Well, that day came...
Picture Request: COC 2012 Calendar
In South Korea, calendars are a big deal. Whether it’s a 100-member or 10,000-member church, it is virtually tradition for churches to purchase calendars to distribute to their congregations as gifts throughout the year. Over the years, IBLP Korea has produced tens...
Where’s the Overlook?
One evening, after a onerous day of work at the computer, I though it would be relaxing to spend some time outside and take pictures of the setting sun. There was an overlook on a nearby hill that I thought would be a good vantage point for the sunset, so I packed...
First Expressions
My first week in South Korea was full of first impressions. Learning the culture and language is one thing; to learn and capitalize on the climate and weather patterns is quite another. These first expressions of my first impressions of Korea display my first...
Know Anything About Tilt-Shift Lenses?
I had this question not too long ago. Though I love shooting wide angle, it does present a problem: distortion; especially of buildings or straight horizons. So my real question was: “Are there any lenses out there that do not have distortion?” Well, after a bit of...

New River Gorgeousness Owing to much planning, traveling, and work, there was not much time for photography this past month. But having a camera handy at all times does pay off. We had been on the road for over six hours, and there was a good three hours...

New month - new photo assignment! And this one is pretty sweet. 🙂 Our goal is to take beautiful photos that reflect the truths of Psalm 119:103, “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Another behind the scenes shot....thanks to @real_lukas_n Though I usually use a tripod for landscape photography, there was no time in this situation where it was literally raining. When I saw the distant mountains after pulling in for only a short time at this open-to-the-public farm, I knew there was a shot somewhere. This vast field of flooded strawberry plants was the foreground I was looking for, offering perfect leading lines to the triangular peak framed by the sweeping mist.

New blog post! The last bit of light after sunset doesn`t take long to disappear. Sparkling stars were peering through the pinyon pine boughs above us. We were in the deep shadows of dusk as we picked our way down the rock strewn trail back to the parking lot. Read more at link in bio.

Behind the shot photo.... When it`s rainy, and you`re not on lights`s time table, there`s time to chat with friends while you`re out in the field! 🤩 Thanks @real_lukas_n for the second photo! --

New blog post! Rain poured down in torrential waves as we made our way through the Smoky Mountains. We had gotten up insanely early—long before dawn—to make the most of our time photographing at the high-elevation overlooks before the storm. But now the rain was coming down so hard that even the most dedicated among us didn’t feel like stepping out of the car for a photo. Until we rounded a bend and saw... Read more at link in bio.

Before/after....look at the difference! A little editing is just what it needed to make it pop (IMO). What do you think?
"For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills." Deuteronomy 8:7-9 Every time I photograph a waterfall I should thank the Lord for letting me live in such a blessed land.

New blog post! The photographer who makes decisions based on comfort won’t get out in the field, even in a place like the Smokies—and therefore won’t come home with any photos. Read more at link in bio.
