A Rainy Day
Despite the fact that it rained most the day, I went out scouting anyway! I love the Kansas countryside. And I love it more with each passing day. I didn’t really think I would, being from West Virginia, but the wide open prairie of golden grass dotted with lonely...
Scouting Kansas
I traveled out to Topeka on Saturday and have been spending time with the Lindsay family preparing for CAPTURE Kansas! The Lindsay’s are a great family with 9 energetic kids and we had a great time playing together over the weekend. On Sunday we went out and...
The Wild West at It’s Best
Transport yourself back into the legendary cowboy days of Gene Autry or the desperadoes of How The West Was Won with these new desktop backgrounds from the popular filming spot known as the Alabama Hills! Retreating Light Download as Desktop Background Light...
Decorate with Canvas
Yup! It’s another canvas sale for all images on Lenspiration.com. I’m only selling them at the following prices until Friday, October 11th, so take advantage of this opportunity while there’s still time! Normally, purchasing a fine art canvas print from the...
A Place Called Alabama Hills
I didn’t have much time for planning out the next day. It was 10:00 at night and I was leaving bright and early the next morning for a week of vacation and scouting for future CAPTURE California workshops! Where should I stop tomorrow? I knew what route I would be...
How Not to Use a Polarizer
Not too long ago I posted about the benefits of using a circular polarizer filter. It is a great help for cut reflections in water and increase the color in lakes and sky. However, you can take the polarizer too far. On my way from Los Angeles to Sacramento, I took...
I Have Returned!
Feels good to be home again, back in good ol’ West Virginia! After spending over a month of crisscrossing the West Coast from Anchorage to Tijuana, there is so much to look back on to thank God for. Many goals were accomplished, relationships established, and...

Would you like to put your pictures to good use?! Want to have your best "wow" shot published? The Institute in Basic Life Principles is putting together a calendar for 2014 and they are looking for some awesome awesome landscape pictures to use. Here's what I...
Why CAPTURE Kansas?
CAPTURE Kansas - October 16-19, 2013 October's coming quickly! With CAPTURE North Carolina and CAPTURE Alaska behind us, CAPTURE Kansas is the final opportunity in 2013 to develop your photography skills from a Christian perspective through the Lenspiration...
How to Make the Background Blurry
Background blur eliminates distractions, creates depth, and makes the person’s face stand alone from it’s surroundings. A combination of the four elements laid out in this post will get you good results every time!
More Than Snapshots
I felt like there were enough good shots from my quick stop in San Diego to use a few as wallpapers. I like to have a different wallpaper on my computer desktop every few weeks, and it certainly has been a few since posting any new ones. So, there’s plenty to...
How to Create an Ebook
Books are one of my favorite things to design! I just love watching the complexities of each paragraph, character, and object style work effectively together in unison as I add each new page . . . each new chapter! I recently put together an ebook called Launch...
Where to Go in San Diego
After my extended stay in Alaska, I stopped in San Diego to visit a friend before heading across the border into Tijuana to jump into an intense design work-schedule with MissionTalk. I didn’t have much time to be taking pictures in San Diego, so I just went out on...

Announcing CAPTURE Kansas
I’m excited to announce the third and final 2013 Lenspiration photography workshop: CAPTURE Kansas! Nevermind the obstacles—flat prairie, torrential rain, desolate drought, unceasing wind, forsaken flatness—it makes no difference to a landscape photographer! In...
Last Days in Alaska
Over the last few days in Alaska, there were a whole lot of places we scouted for next year’s CAPTURE Alaska workshop. Moving into September, the rainy season started to let up, but for the most part, Alaska continued to hide the essence of it’s glory in the...
How to Shoot on Rainy Days
The locals weren’t kidding when they said this time of year in Alaska was the rainy season. After the few days of sunshine last weekend, the clouds moved in and haven’t left. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t stopped seeking for “wow” pictures! A Break in the Clouds...
Home, Home in the Mountains
On our two-day excursion down to the Kenai Peninsula this weekend, I would have to say this was one of my favorite places we stopped to take pictures. If you are ever driving the scenic Seward Highway between Anchorage and Seward, make sure to stop and enjoy this...
Alaskan Culture
This is really odd. It’s practically 10:00pm and it’s still pretty light outside as I get ready for bed. It’s even more strange to think that at 12:00 midnight tonight there will still be vestiges of light on the horizon, as I noted was the case on the drive back...
Why I Use a Polarizer
We hiked along the banks of the beautiful and secluded Eklutna Lake, Alaska, today. From what I heard, the water level was very high and over it’s normal banks making it difficult to find an open area to shoot with anchor objects in the foreground. But after hiking...

New month - new photo assignment! And this one is pretty sweet. 🙂 Our goal is to take beautiful photos that reflect the truths of Psalm 119:103, “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Another behind the scenes shot....thanks to @real_lukas_n Though I usually use a tripod for landscape photography, there was no time in this situation where it was literally raining. When I saw the distant mountains after pulling in for only a short time at this open-to-the-public farm, I knew there was a shot somewhere. This vast field of flooded strawberry plants was the foreground I was looking for, offering perfect leading lines to the triangular peak framed by the sweeping mist.

New blog post! The last bit of light after sunset doesn`t take long to disappear. Sparkling stars were peering through the pinyon pine boughs above us. We were in the deep shadows of dusk as we picked our way down the rock strewn trail back to the parking lot. Read more at link in bio.

Happy Memorial Day! Let us honor their sacrifice by using our freedoms not to do as we please, but to live as we ought. #freedom #integrity #selfcontrol #memorialday #Godblessamerica
New blog post! Rain poured down in torrential waves as we made our way through the Smoky Mountains. We had gotten up insanely early—long before dawn—to make the most of our time photographing at the high-elevation overlooks before the storm. But now the rain was coming down so hard that even the most dedicated among us didn’t feel like stepping out of the car for a photo. Until we rounded a bend and saw... Read more at link in bio.

Before/after....look at the difference! A little editing is just what it needed to make it pop (IMO). What do you think?
"For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills." Deuteronomy 8:7-9 Every time I photograph a waterfall I should thank the Lord for letting me live in such a blessed land.
