Big Change Coming
For a long time now, I’ve been working on making some big changes to Lenspiration. Since the beginning of 2013, I’ve had a desire to make Lenspiration more than just a design business or a place to look at pretty pictures. For over a year now, I’ve worked to branch...
The Photographers Behind Big Sandy
Photo by Daniel To view more pictures from the Big Sandy Event Photography track held last week, head over to the IBLP Google+ page! We photographers had a great time learning to jump out of our comfort zones to capture the student programs, the attending families...
Some Shots from Big Sandy
Here are just a few shots from the Event Photography Workshop this week! We had a great team of 15 photographers, not including assistants who helped out and parents who listened in. Everyone learned so much and it seemed to me that there wasn’t a single minute of...
ISO Makes a Difference
Did you see the lunar eclipse the other night? I had never seen one on a clear night before so I was pretty excited when I heard this one was rolling around. The only other one I had the opportunity to observe was on a relatively cloudy night so I only caught hazy...
Winter Hangs On
How strange it felt to put on my overcoat again to walk to work in glistening snow, knowing that it was the middle of April and having thought spring had finally arrived! It was t-shirt weather just a few days ago. This was what my backyard looked like on April 15...
Insights on Beauty
Have you ever thought about the verse in Genesis, “Out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight . . .” As a landscape photographer keeping an eye out for the intricate beauty around me, verses like this intrigue me and...
Indiana Deadline Is Today!
Today is April 7. And April 7 is the Early Registration Deadline for CAPTURE Indiana, which will be held just outside of Indianapolis from May 7-10. If you didn’t already know, this means that it’s the last day to take advantage of the $50 discount that you get...
What’s New This Year in Big Sandy
I’ve not posted much on the new opportunity at the 2014 ATI Family Conference in Big Sandy coming up in just a few weeks. I’ve eluded to it here and there, but there’s been so much interest within the current Conference registrants, that I’ve hardly had any time to...
Rules for Shooting People
In preparing for the Event Photography Workshop coming up in Big Sandy, Texas, later this month, I’ve been doing some research on general protocol for photographing people at events. Here are answers to four common questions: 1. What is standard protocol for...
2015 Calendar: What Pictures Would You Choose?
Would you like to have a voice in the creation of the 2015 Lenspiration calendar? Believe it or not, I’m beginning work on it already. I’ve selected over 50 images from my portfolio but now you can help me narrow them down to the top 12 that would be best for a...
A New Computer
After replacing the hard drive last year and the bezel last month, there was only one thing left that I felt needed replaced on my workhorse Dell Studio XPS before I could say it felt like new again. Overheating. Have you ever had this problem on your laptop? It...
What to Know Before CAPTURE
Over the weekend, I got to spend some time with the Peters brothers on a photoshoot to Kent Falls State Park. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks here in Connecticut working on the 2015 CEF Calendar, MissionTalk design projects, Conference Photography prep . . ....
What it Takes to Run a Business
Ever heard of Dave Stelzl of Raising Entrepreneurs? He’s played a significant role in Lenspiration behind-the-scenes for the past few years and I am always challenged by his perspective and insight on helping folks develop their talents and God-given passions...
The Beauty of God
Enough posts about updates and opportunities. Let’s enjoy some new desktop background and some spiritually thought-provoking perspective on beauty. I chose the following images from an excursion to the West Coast a while back because they hint especially well of...
How Close Are You to Indianapolis?
By car, Indianapolis is 4.5 hours or less from 8 surrounding states. By plane, practically every state in the US is close. Join us for the CAPTURE Indiana photography workshop from May 7-10. The Verity Institute campus, set apart in the quite countryside half an...
Learn, Practice, and Master Successful Event Photography
When one has both good and bad news, it’s better to start with the bad, right? Well, CAPTURE Texas has been canceled due to the fact that the minimum number of photographers was not reached by the Early Registration Deadline. Sad indeed, but it’s better to...
Texas Workshop Rescheduled!
Important update here: as of yesterday, the CAPTURE Texas workshop has been rescheduled to April 16-19. This is two weeks later than originally planned. There are currently 4 spots available, so if you’re schedule didn’t allow the opportunity to come with the...
Map of CAPTURE Quebec Covered Bridges
When I went to Quebec in February, I scouted out quite a few covered bridges. Not all of them were exactly picturesque at the time of year I visited, but they all had great potential for various seasons and weather conditions. We only visited two of the five I...
Shooting for Your Goal
With CAPTURE Texas coming up in just a little over 3 weeks, I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes the CAPTURE workshops different than other workshop out there. Why am I so confident that it’s worth every dollar invested? What would make me willing to pay $450...
From the Other Photographers’ Perspective
Photos by Dr. Robert Frazer Thanks to the Frazer Family, CAPTURE Quebec was the largest workshop yet! It was neat to see everyone’s skill level increasing each day, and I was practically running out of things to talk about by the end of the class. :) I...
What are we up to?
Follow along with Lenspiration travels…
New month - new photo assignment! And this one is pretty sweet. 🙂 Our goal is to take beautiful photos that reflect the truths of Psalm 119:103, “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Another behind the scenes shot....thanks to @real_lukas_n Though I usually use a tripod for landscape photography, there was no time in this situation where it was literally raining. When I saw the distant mountains after pulling in for only a short time at this open-to-the-public farm, I knew there was a shot somewhere. This vast field of flooded strawberry plants was the foreground I was looking for, offering perfect leading lines to the triangular peak framed by the sweeping mist.

New blog post! The last bit of light after sunset doesn`t take long to disappear. Sparkling stars were peering through the pinyon pine boughs above us. We were in the deep shadows of dusk as we picked our way down the rock strewn trail back to the parking lot. Read more at link in bio.

Behind the shot photo.... When it`s rainy, and you`re not on lights`s time table, there`s time to chat with friends while you`re out in the field! 🤩 Thanks @real_lukas_n for the second photo! --

Happy Memorial Day! Let us honor their sacrifice by using our freedoms not to do as we please, but to live as we ought. #freedom #integrity #selfcontrol #memorialday #Godblessamerica
New blog post! Rain poured down in torrential waves as we made our way through the Smoky Mountains. We had gotten up insanely early—long before dawn—to make the most of our time photographing at the high-elevation overlooks before the storm. But now the rain was coming down so hard that even the most dedicated among us didn’t feel like stepping out of the car for a photo. Until we rounded a bend and saw... Read more at link in bio.

Before/after....look at the difference! A little editing is just what it needed to make it pop (IMO). What do you think?
"For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills." Deuteronomy 8:7-9 Every time I photograph a waterfall I should thank the Lord for letting me live in such a blessed land.

New blog post! The photographer who makes decisions based on comfort won’t get out in the field, even in a place like the Smokies—and therefore won’t come home with any photos. Read more at link in bio.
